Sony PR Avoids Answering About Backward Compatibility on PSVR2

Sony have nothing further to announce about PSVR2 at the moment

Sony announced its new VR Headset, the PSVR 2, during its CES 2022 conference. The VR headset will serve as the successor to PSVR. Sony also announced Horizon Call of the Mountain as a PSVR2 exclusive. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions around the new VR Headset. Sony is staying quiet about backward compatibility (BC) on PSVR2.

According to Stephen Totilo, Sony has nothing more to announce about the PSVR2 at the moment. He also asked if the PSVR 2 would be backward compatible with the PSVR titles, but his question wasn’t answered. Sony has not revealed the release date of the headset yet. Totilo inquired about the release date, but his question was not addressed. This leaves a lot of ambiguity around the new headset. Sony PR says they have nothing more to announce about the headset.

We can assume that they will not confirm a marketing plan through a journalist. So, all hope of PSVR 2 being backward compatible is not dead. Especially when many consumers will want to play the old titles on the new headset, we will have to stay tuned for further information on backward compatibility.

There is also no official release date for the PSVR 2. Sony refused to comment on the release date of the headset, but many assume it will be 2022. But we will have to wait for more information about this too.

Sony did announce other information about the headset. The PSVR 2 will feature an OLED display which is a first for a VR Headset. ”The Sense Controllers” will be the official name of the controllers. The headset will have 110 degrees field of view, which is impressive. It will also support 90 Hz and 120 Hz. PSVR 2 will have four cameras on the headset, which will track your movements without needing an external camera. The new sensory features will also immerse the user in an entirely new experience.

An exclusive game, Horizon Call of the Mountain, was also announced. Guerrilla Games and Firesprite Games are developing the new exclusive. There are no other announcement about the game, and currently, there is no official release date for the exclusive.

There is also no official price for the headset as of now. This adds to the questions about the headset. The price is essential for the customers, and the right price is critical to the headset’s success. It will be interesting to see Sony’s price to the PSVR 2.

According to rumors, the headset may release in Holiday 2022, but this isn’t official. The PSVR 2 seems exciting, but many important questions remain unanswered. Hopefully, Sony will answer many of these questions in the coming months.
