Jason Ronald from Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox has “no plans” to remove or disable developer mode on Xbox consoles following speculation this week. Ronald confirmed on Twitter “We continue to believe in and support a healthy independent app and game development community on Xbox.”
While removing inactive accounts, some Partner Center accounts were “inadvertently deactivated.” This caused the confusion and speculation that the developer mode feature was being removed. If you have had your account deactivated, you can reach out to ReportApp@microsoft.com to speed up the account recovery. “We apologize for the inconvenience and we are working to remedy this as quickly as possible and thanks for your patience,” said Ronald.
We have no plans to remove or disable Developer Mode on Xbox consoles. We continue to believe in and support a healthy independent app and game development community on Xbox.

As part of a regularly scheduled maintenance to clean up inactive accounts, a number of Partner Center accounts used to enable Developer Mode on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles were inadvertently deactivated.

We previously reported that Microsoft was planning to disable the dev mode for Xbox. This would be extremely bad news for the console as emulation enthusiasts tend to use emulators on that console. Luckily, this is not the case. Jason Ronald confirmed that Microsoft is happy to support their Partner Center accounts and they will continue to do so.
If your account did get banned during this, you can always contact Microsoft support to get it back. Let us know in the comments below what your thoughts are regarding this new development. If there are any more updates regarding this situation, we will keep you updated.
