No Xbox Series X|S Successor Is In The Works Currently, Confirms Xbox Head

Phil Spencer has revealed that a major mid-cycle upgrade does not feel "imperative."

Story Highlights

  • Phil Spencer has said that an Xbox Series X Pro is not in development.
  • The Xbox chief revealed that fan feedback isn’t telling them to make an upgrade and that the company is happy with the hardware.

While talking to Bloomberg after the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox chief Phil Spencer disclosed that an Xbox Series X Pro or anything of the like is currently not in the works. The head of Microsoft’s gaming division said that the company is happy with the hardware it has now and doesn’t “feel an imperative” to make an upgrade. Hence, we won’t be seeing a Pro version of either Series X|S console anytime soon.

That’s not the feedback we’re getting right now. Right now, we’re pretty set on the hardware we have.”

Spencer further expanded on this topic in an interview with Bloomberg following the brilliant Xbox Games Showcase. The Xbox chief said that feedback plays a big part in the company’s decisions and the fan response doesn’t suggest an upgrade is needed right now. As a result, any announcements regarding next-gen hardware from Microsoft are pretty unlikely in the near future.

Phil Spencer did announce a new version of the Xbox Series S with 1TB storage at the Xbox Games Showcase. But, besides the new $349 carbon black Series, there was no other news regarding hardware and it seems like that will be the case for the time being. Just like Sony’s PlayStation 5, Microsoft launched the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the November of 2020.

All of the next-gen consoles had a pretty hard time in the first two years due to supply issues caused by Covid-19. But, in the last year or so, both Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 have started selling much better, with supply problems completely ending for the latter. Sony’s console has now sold almost 38 million units and has been the best-selling console of 2023.

On the other hand, the Xbox Series consoles have also been performing pretty well. With over 21 million units sold worldwide, it has shipped 1 million more consoles than the Xbox One in the same time frame. Even though it is trailing behind its main competitor PS5 by 15 million units, Xbox Series X|S is 3 million units ahead of the company’s most successful generation in the same time frame, Xbox 360.
