As shocking as it sounds to hear the passage of time leaving you behind as it rushes by you like a hazy dreamlike memory, the PS5 is 2 years old. There have been numerous controversies, supply issues, and scalper problems. All of those problems result in many people not even having a PlayStation 5 even now.
Major Takeaways
- The PS5 finally has a jailbreak.
- Will potentially be able to run blacklisted PS4/PS5 games.
To many, it feels like the system is still extremely new, like it just came out months or a year ago, so it’s surprising to see that the system has already been jailbroken.
Notorious hacker and industry insider, Lance McDonald has recently posted a video of a jailbroken PS5 on his Twitter. The video shows off the developer features and many of the hidden dev tools.
It's… beautiful.

The most enticing detail about this can be found at the end of the video. It shows him installing the Silent Hills P.T demo which had been unlisted from the PlayStation store. While the demo could still be played on the PS4, it was impossible to run P.T on a PS5 until now.
While I won’t go into the technical nitty-gritty of jailbreaking a system because that’s not really my place to talk about. This is going to allow players to do a lot of funky things with their PS5, from possibly emulating previous hardware to being able to create their own patches for PlayStation 4 games that need one.
The latter has even been done on a PS4 before by the same person. Lance McDonald also managed to create a 60FPS patch for Bloodborne on the PS4 by simply changing a line of code within the game.
What makes this funny is that people have been practically begging for a 60 FPS patch for Bloodborne for years now with absolutely zero response from Sony on the matter, and it’s as simple as changing a line of code.
Either way, this is great news for both hackers and players alike. In the future, we can expect a lot of hidden information to be revealed. Plus, these hacks lead to some incredibly interesting realizations later down the line.
Obviously, this will be patched, as is the case with most other consoles as they frequently update their security but that’s not a point of worry for most of the people who work on these things.
