After a wait of three years, EA has finally released the next game in the Need for Speed series called Unbound. Unfortunately, despite waiting for a couple of years, players are already facing game-breaking errors while trying to run NFS Unbound on their PCs. One of these is the NFS Unbound crashing error.
Fortunately, there are a few possible fixes for the error, which can ease the early problems for plenty of gamers.
- You can try re-installing the game as a last resort if the other fixes don’t work for you.
Following are some fixes you can try to resolve the issue:
- Deleting the DX12 file
- Launching the game through Origin
- Repairing Game Files
Launch The Game Through Origin:
Since the game is capable of running through EA App and Origin both, some players were able to fix the crashing issue by switching their base engine for NFS Unbound.Regardless of the store you bought the game from, NFS Unbound will use either the EA App or Origin engine to launch on your PC. Even Steam will redirect you toward these clients when you try playing NFS Unbound.
Other than that, if the Origin client is unable to locate the game, then browse for it through the given option in the engine. After that, try running NFS Unbound to check whether the error has been fixed for you.
Repair Game Files:
Repairing game files can help solve NFS Unbound crashing on PC by identifying and fixing any corrupted or missing game files that may be causing the crashes.
When you repair game files, the game’s launcher scans the game installation and compares the files to the original versions stored on the game servers. If any discrepancies are found, the launcher downloads and replaces the corrupted or missing files.
Delete DX12 File:
When I encountered this error myself, this fix was the one that got me through the error. Many players also pointed out that by deleting the relevant file, their game started working properly. If you’re not aware of how to find the DX12 file on your PC, then we have got you covered.
Simply follow these steps:
- Open File Explorer > Locate “Origin Games” folder.
- Open the “Need For Speed Unbound” folder > Open the “Shader cache” folder.
- Now choose the “PcDx12” file > Delete it.
After doing the above-mentioned steps, it is essential to delete the DX12 file from the Documents folder as well.
Hence, here are the following steps that would help you solve NFS Unbound crashing error:
- Open up the “File Explorer” > Documents.
- Open the “Need For Speed Unbound” folder and enter the “cache” folder.
- Delete the Dx12 file you find here and close the window.
When you have followed these steps, close up all the windows and restart the PC. After it’s back and running, open the relevant gaming engine and run NFS Unbound to check if the game still causes any issues or not.
My Thoughts:
EA has always been infamous for being one of the worst gaming companies when it comes to audience appeasement.
And with the release of NFS Unbound, we can see that this time is no different from the rest. While the game, itself, is very enjoyable and I’m having lots of fun playing it, this doesn’t excuse the poor state it’s in in terms of bugs and errors.
People were also complaining on forums like Reddit and even the EA forums about the constant crashing. Twitter was also in a similar situation.
