The theme of Zelda is right up there with those that top the leaderboards. This is Nintendo’s iconic game franchise that has inspired a plethora of other titles and made the childhood of most of us working adults. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is another popular entry in the series that was released way back in 2003 for Europe. It made landfall on the Nintendo and the Nintendo Wii U, both of which measure up to be era-defining consoles of their time.
However, it appears that Wind Waker, despite being released over two decades ago, is still kept alive by the modding community. That said, Nintendo has a history of taking down mods, including custom-made Joy-Con controllers that were made in honor of Desmond “Etika” Amofah – a famed content creator who sadly committed suicide last year.
This time, an individual, who previously took down Kaze Emanuar’s “The Missing Link” mod for The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, has spotted a Wind Waker mod allegedly in production at the moment.
News regarding its development had surfaced three months ago on YouTube, but it seems that the report has only been filed now. This certain individual has posted a screenshot of an email sent to Nintendo of America on the internet, detailing the video gaming giant about this curious little project.
The link to the YouTube video has also been given, and you can check out the content of the mod here. Described, “Relive a timeless story, reimagined in a style fresh like a breeze,” the creator of the mod actually posted this as part of an April Fool’s prank but has also discussed plans on making the concept come to life.
BigSharkZ, who happens to be the one spearheading the mod, says, “While it is not a full or brand new game, all that was showcased here will someday be made available in the form of a mod pack! This video was made in two weeks with very little sleep, as a proof of concept to show some of what can be done with Wind Waker modding.”
Apparently, the person emailing Nintendo about this mod isn’t taking any chances, as he’s also mentioned his earlier contribution to illegal modding, to which the developer replied promptly.
The mod at hand attempts to revitalize The Wind Waker with elements of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, whose release dates back to 1998. According to the concerned party, “[The mod] is infringing on BOTH Wind Waker AND Ocarina of Time, with several assets being made in the latter’s game likeness and being imported into Wind Waker.
A list of other people who are in on this project has been given by the individual as well. It seems that a number of people have a role to play in this Wind Waker mod, which is now supposedly under Nintendo’s attention.
