Developer Square Enix officially revealed at the game’s pre-launch event that the demo would release on June 12, 2023, at 1:00 a.m. PT/ 4:00 a.m. ET all over the globe. In addition to the playable prologue, the trial also contains a special battle demo mode which unlocks after you finish the prologue. Through this battle mode, fans can experience the Eikon abilities Clive has in Final Fantasy 16 for the first time.
However, unlike the prologue, the progress from this mode won’t carry into the main game. The release of Final Fantasy 16’s demo had already leaked yesterday through the Spanish TV spot that was shown during the Champions League final. This live-action ad ended with the message “Play the demo now” and was probably meant for yesterday’s pre-launch celebration event.

Square Enix’s official pre-launch event for the role-playing title took place yesterday on June 11, 2023. Fans were able to tune into the almost 5-hour-long event and watch as Final Fantasy 16’s producer Yoshi-P, alongside special guests like Alanah Pearce, Maximillian Doof, and Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, taught us about the RPG’s narrative, and music, and showcased the power of Eikons in the game.
If you missed the pre-launch event, there is no need to worry as you can relive it through the YouTube video below and see all the Final Fantasy 16 action for yourself. Square Enix’s upcoming action RPG is one of the most anticipated games of 2023. It has been on the top of Famitsu’s most-wanted games list since April and with producers calling it a “playable Hollywood blockbuster,” the hype is understandable.
In addition, the developers have also ensured that Final Fantasy 16 will have smooth 60 FPS gameplay, which is a big deal considering how games like Redfall have been restricted to 30 FPS. When you add the introduction of cuss words to this, the action RPG becomes a must-play. Furthermore, Square Enix also has a plan to increase the game’s sales with an 18-month post-launch cycle.
Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida also revealed that the game will be given time to sell copies as it is only launching on the PlayStation 5 at release. Hence, Square Enix is taking a long-term approach to the newest addition to the franchise. Only time will tell how well the RPG performs when it launches on the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.
