Arkane Austin’s Redfall had an utterly shoddy launch, but Xbox is still confident about its future. Xbox’s Pete Hines, the head of publishing, recently appeared in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz and suggested that the game will improve massively with future updates and stay on Game Pass even after ten years. Pete has shown enthusiasm for the title’s future updates and believes that gamers will want to play the game after a decade.
Okay, we didn’t get the start we wanted, but it’s still a fun game… and we’re going to keep working on it. We’re going to do 60fps. We’re going to get it to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever. There will be people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there,” said Pete Hines.
The notable figure compared Redfall’s launch to Fallout 76 and discussed how it can be improved similarly. Additionally, Pete Hines has talked about how the game has affected the company, suggesting that it is not the first time Bethesda has faced a dismal launch. Bethesda is seemingly not going to abandon Redfall just because it was a bug-ridden mess after launch; Pete gives examples of some other titles that suffered a similar beginning.

We are the same company that has had launches that didn’t go the way we wanted, and we don’t quit or abandon stuff just because it didn’t start right. The Elder Scrolls Online’s PC launch was not flawless but we stuck with it. Now it’s like this insanely popular multiplatform. It’s the same with Fallout 76. Redfall is no different for us.”
The title has certainly not done well so far, selling minimal copies around the globe. It came out with only 30 FPS support for the consoles. Pete Hines has confirmed that 60 FPS will eventually arrive in the future. Regardless, Arkane Austin has been quite silent about the whole fiasco. It has left fans worried about whether Redfall devs will ever live up to the vehement promise before release that it will be Arkane’s “most supported” title.
The first exclusive Microsoft title for the year, Redfall, garnered a lot of hype in the gaming industry before its condemned launch. It failed to meet almost all the expectations of the fans and critics alike, but the devs at Arkane Austin have not given up on the project. Arkane Austin is confident about improving all the facets currently riddled with issues and bringing newer content to make the title a worthwhile venture for Xbox fans.
Redfall came out on May 2, 2023, for Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC.
