  • Recent rumors have suggested that Microsoft had no faith in Redfall after taking control of the project, and a more ambitious game by Arkane Lyon is in the brewer.
  • Redfall is an open-world FPS created by award-winning devs behind Dishonored and Prey. It released on Xbox Series S and Series X and PC on May 2nd, 2023.

Many expectations were shrouding the first-party Microsoft title Redfall, and users were initially anticipating the action-packed vampire-hunting venture to kickstart the year for the giant conglomerate. Things took a turn for the worse, however, and it was released with a variety of bugs and glitches dominant throughout every nook and cranny of the game. The botched release has directly resulted in one of the devs being targeted by mockery.

Arkane Austin has been rained with practical objections and complaints from upset fans, which is understandable and often the case in the gaming sphere. However, some users have taken it a step further and started nagging the team behind Redfall due to the game’s lousy state upon launch. The developer Sadie Boyd who worked as an Environment Artist for the entry, has come forward on Twitter to talk about the harassment she faced.

Sadie Boyd has been heckled by her “peers, friends, or colleagues” in a surprising revelation, facing mocking and disdain from those she looked up to. It has caused Redfall’s Environment Artist sadness and disappointment because of how others have reacted after the title’s bad state upon launch. The developer continued to express her remarks about what statements have affected her the most.

I try to keep things positive, I really do. But I am human, I have feelings. Seeing people I looked up to saying things like ‘They deserved this’ ‘Now their resumes are tainted lol’ ‘what ******* idiots’ etc have, truthfully, been the only things to bother me,” she says expressing her disdain.

The Redfall dev has faced many negative remarks after the entry failed to meet the expectations of almost every user. While she played a significant role in procuring the environment for the game, the developer did not whip up the whole first-person shooter by herself. The toxic behavior seems to have been caused by the dev’s relatives, which is a further cause for concern as many expect relatives to be the support in these scenarios.

Often it is the community that targets certain developers or an actor who worked on a game. The issues can arise from allegedly bad voice acting to brewing a specific change opposed by fans. For instance, Ada Wong’s VA in the Resident Evil 4 remake, Lily Gao, also faced constant ridicule from fans on social media due to users not liking her acting, which resulted in her wiping most of her images and disabling comments on social media.

However, Sadie Boyd has been targeted by her relatives, whom she was close to, which is quite a saddening series of events. Phil Spencer recently came on a podcast and apologized to the Xbox community for the failed Redfall release; the boss was also dissatisfied with the game’s disastrous launch.

Recent rumors have suggested that Microsoft evidently had no faith in Redfall after coming into the picture, and it wanted to rush out of the game to work on other projects. Moreover, Arkane Lyon is said to be working on a “much more ambitious game,” and a Deathloop sequel appears to be a major possibility

Redfall is only one of the anticipated AAA entries that have joined the list of botched game releases this year. It is an open-world FPS experience created by award-winning devs behind Dishonored and Prey. The entry was released on Xbox Series S and Series X and PC on May 2nd, 2023.
