I don’t know about you, but I’ve got my eyes set on Team Ninja’s next enthralling IP, Rise of the Ronin. The game, announced during State of Play 2022, is now making its way to the PlayStation 5 later next month with action-packed gameplay, and everything else that Team Ninja is known for. In recent times, more information concerning the game’s combat has been revealed, and I have to say, we’re in for a treat here.
Since the mid-90s, the developers at Team Ninja have earned consistent praise for their precise, satisfying combat. Look no further than the Dead or Alive franchise’s dynamic fighting system or Ninja Gaiden’s lightning-fast combat for prime examples. The developer aims to continue and expand that legacy of satisfying melee mechanics in Rise of the Ronin,” says a PlayStation representative.
Gameplay mechanics such as the Counterspark, which is a timed parry of your opponent’s attack that ends up depleting a lot of their Ki, and Martial Skills have been detailed, with the latter being specific moves that target the Ki essence of in-game enemies. A combination of these two will allow you to topple high-level foes, I’ve learned that much after getting my respect handed to me in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Each Japanese and Western weapon—Katana, spears, dual blades, bayonets, and sabers—has its own capabilities and attack actions. As you build bonds with characters you meet, you will acquire new combat styles and further evolve their capabilities to enhance your battle experience.”
Similarly, Rise of the Ronin will let players choose from a variety of different weapons, not to mention the various fight stances that ought to be employed by the protagonist for each of these armaments. The recent post highlights three of these—Mumyo, Hokushin Itto, and Yagyu Shinkage, with each boasting its own strengths.
Rise of the Ronin drops on March 22, 2024, for the PlayStation 5. It’ll be officially sold in most regions, save for South Korea.
