Capcom’s latest venture in the JRPG space, Dragon’s Dogma 2, has been raking in quite the sales over the course of its two-month or so release. According to the developer, the game has sold over 3 million copies to date, welcoming a swath of Arisens to Vermund and Battahl. This is despite the mixed reception that it received at the time of its launch, no thanks to not one but various different issues.
Thank you to the 3 million Arisen who have embarked on adventures in Dragon’s Dogma 2! We are grateful for your continued support.”
-The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Team
Back in April, I reported that Dragon’s Dogma 2 had managed to roll over 2.5 million units, so it’s not like this 3-million number comes out of nowhere. At the time, Capcom confirmed that cumulative franchise sales have topped 10 million, with the larger part of that figure belonging to the first Dragon’s Dogma, which came out all the way back in 2012 and went on to become a genre-defining RPG.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold over 2.5 million units, taking the series to over 10 million units worldwide. Thank you for your support. We recently released an update for Dragon’s Dogma 2, and will continue to support the game in the future.”
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Suffered A Troubled Launch
Amid performance issues on PC, the impending doom of microtransactions that rubbed people the wrong way right from the get-go but was mostly due to negligence, and other problems such as lack of enemy variety that ran a little deeper, players couldn’t help but pan the game for what it brought to the table after all these years.
Addressing the situation quickly, Capcom let out a blog post, confirming that fixes are underway. Although the game has lost about 90% of its player base on Steam already, it’s an unequivocal sales success, much to the delight of Capcom.
eXputer reviewed Dragon’s Dogma 2, rating it 4.5/5.0, with author Huzaifah remarking, “Its performance may be disappointing, but don’t let that detract from the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is still one of the best RPGs ever made.” If you’re a new player though, here are the best Party combinations to be wary of early on.
