Story Highlights
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most prolific releases of 2023, coming as a sequel to the first Spider-Man.
- The game is about to make landfall on PC next year. Insomniac confirmed this recently via a new trailer.
- Additionally, all hopes of a Spider-Man 2 DLC have been cut down by a Marvel executive as of late.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has remained an exceptional action-adventure over the course of its release, but it would be flat-out wrong for me to say that no one expected more from the game in the coming year. Many remained steadfast in hopes of any pertinent Spider-Man 2 DLC, especially after the notorious Insomniac cyberattack and data leak, but it turns out, the developer has changed course since then.
According to Aaron Jason, Insomniac’s Community Manager, Spider-Man 2 won’t be getting a story expansion. This comes as a huge bummer for the majority of players because most of us were in expectation of some DLC for the title.
We introduced all-new abilities and traversal options such as Symbiote Surge and Web Wings, and we’ve also expanded Marvel’s New York with new boroughs and side missions to explore. While we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re delighted to bring all of our previously released post-launch content to the PC version, including New Game+, new suits and color variants, Photo Mode features, and more,” confirms Insomniac.
In all fairness, Spider-Man 2’s story pacing and content feel relatively lacking as compared to the first Spider-Man iteration by Insomniac. It’s not like the mega-hit titled failed to grab a single distinction at The Game Awards without good reason. I did hope that the developer would make up for the shortcomings by at least releasing a three-episode DLC, but, oh well.
Spider-Man 2 Makes Is Coming To PC Next Year
Despite the sad news, it bears mentioning that PC players are still going to have one of the best action-adventures in the business available at their disposal on January 30, 2025. On launch, it’ll be pumped with an array of features, some of which Insomniac’s Core Technology Director lays out in the community post.
Our team put a lot of love into this game, and we’re excited that it will soon be enjoyed by a whole new audience with keyboard and mouse controls, ultra widescreen support, and numerous graphical options that make it feel at home on their platform.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 initially came out on October 20, 2023, for the PlayStation 5. eXputer reviewed the title, rating it 4/5, with author Usama Mehmood remarking it to have “significantly improved gameplay and a narrative that tugs at your heartstrings.”
