Story Highlights
- Ubisoft is the proud creator of the iconic platforming video game series—Rayman.
- The company has long abandoned the mainline Rayman games, having been over a decade since the last release.
- Now, however, Ubisoft seems to be pursuing plans related to the Rayman franchise.
The Rayman franchise of side-scrolling action-adventures has a special place in the hearts of almost everyone who’s played it, including mine. To think that such a capable franchise has been left dormant for a while now — not taking into account the 2023-released spin-off — is nothing but a tragedy, but now, Ubisoft may very well be changing that.
Speaking to Kotaku, a Ubisoft representative has issued a statement that reignites hopes for the future of the franchise, saying that both Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan, though it’s only Montpellier that’s worked on all of the mainline titles, are both looking into the revival of the “Rayman brand.”
We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand. The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe.”
It’s important to note that anything concrete is still a ways away from now, so do not go on holding your breath about it even if you really want to. The good news is that Ubisoft is seemingly serious about the forthcoming project, iterating that it’s even in talks with Michel Ancel — the OG franchise creator — to make sure things are pieced together properly for the new project.
Rayman 4 Got Canceled Way Back
Back in 2022, Rayman 4’s source code leak showcased the canceled title’s early gameplay. Since it’s a prototype, nothing’s really solid in there apart from the concepts that could get nowhere sadly. It’s been said that Ubisoft wanted to pursue a lighter, more family-friendly title that would cash in more sales instead of the darker tone that Rayman 4 was being built on.
Of course, no one except for Ubisoft knows the whole story, so we’re going to leave it at just that. Let’s just hope something fruitful comes out of the recent development and the company ends up following through with what it said.
