Story Highlights
- The PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony’s answer for a mid-gen hardware refresh for this platform.
- The console ships with an innate image upscaling feature to enhance PlayStation 4 games.
- The feature does not improve the performance of said games, however, and is only aesthetic.
The PlayStation 5 Pro, among its other features, will ship with a certain functionality that will allow it to boost the visuals of PlayStation 4 titles. This is considered a system-wide feature that will apply to most, if not all, games of the previous console. Taking to X, notable industry personality Kami also shared a side-by-side comparison of Bloodborne running on the PS5 and the PS5 Pro.
Of course, since the improvement is purely visual, do not expect a performance boost. Bloodborne at 60 FPS is still a dream and will remain a dream for God knows how long until Sony finally decides to do something about it. For now, feel free to head over to Imgsli and observe the before-and-after difference in real-time.
In a separate post on the official PlayStation blog, company CEO Hideaki Nishino did confirm earlier that the the PS5 Pro will feature “Enhanced Image Quality” for select PS4 titles. It seems to me that Bloodborne is one of them.
Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.”
Bloodborne’s Performance Has Always Been A Real Problem
It’s baffling to me how a game like Bloodborne never got its due treatment, not by FromSoftware and definitely not by Sony. Even to this day, the game struggles to maintain a 30 FPS frame rate on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
Now that’s a real shame.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is hitting shelves later in November, coming with a steep $699 price tag. Sony boss sees the console representing the PlayStation brand more than the base PS5 or the slim variant, though with its lofty pricing, it’s possible that people would prefer otherwise.
