Story Highlights
- Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 will reduce the PC installation size by roughly 40GB.
- Console players can expect a smaller but still welcome reduction of around 15GB.
- The mid-season update will also introduce The Hood as a new Vanguard hero.
NetEase Games is reducing Marvel Rivals installation size by roughly 40GB on PC, while console versions will shrink by approximately 15GB.
That is a substantial reduction, especially for PC players juggling several enormous live-service games on one SSD.
Marvel Rivals Is Getting a Much-Needed Storage Reduction
Announced during the Marvel Rivals Dev Vision Vol 20, game director Guangguang announced the reduction in PC and console file size. He also cited texture compression as the primary reason behind the file size reduction.
Here is the expected reduction across platforms:
| Platform | Approximate Size Reduction |
|---|---|
| PC | 40GB |
| Consoles | 15GB |
The game director also said the update for Marvel Rivals season 9.5 will be larger than usual due to the new texture compression update, but the final size of the game will be lower.
The Hood Joins the Roster in Season 9.5

Storage optimization is not the only major addition arriving with the update. Season 9.5 will introduce The Hood as Marvel Rivals’ latest playable hero.
Bringing his usual association with firearms and demonic powers, The Hood is joining the roster as a Vanguard. His role was confirmed alongside the character’s official Season 9.5 unveiling.
The update will also bring additional cosmetics, including more swimsuit skins, alongside a new Vanguard and other mid-season content.
The Hood may headline the gameplay side of Season 9.5, but the smaller installation size could prove just as valuable. Saving roughly 40GB on PC and 15GB on consoles is the kind of behind-the-scenes improvement every live-service game should pursue as its content library continues expanding.
