We Should Already Accept That GTA 6 Won’t Reinvent Gaming

The hype for the title is understandably off the charts, but isn't it too much?

Story Highlights

  • GTA 6 is shaping up to become Rockstar’s best entry in the industry so far.
  • Yet people are looking at it as something that will reinvent what we know about gaming altogether.
  • It’s best to keep expectations in check until launch.

It is no surprise that Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be the biggest event in the gaming ecosystem. Rockstar Games has built a name for itself by brewing arguably the best open-world franchise in the industry. As a result, many are always hopeful and excited about the studio’s next biggest endeavor. And I can’t help but feel that GTA 6 is genuinely the studio’s greatest project up to date; the excitement is off the charts, to say the least.

The trust that Rockstar has built over the years has caused many gamers to develop unparalleled confidence in the devs. Now, that is far from a bad thing. However, many gamers have taken this conviction to the extreme, causing them to treat the upcoming launch of GTA 6 as the starting of a new era in the gaming industry.

There Is Much To Be Excited For GTA 6

The beauty of Rockstar Games is that they always push the limits of what is possible at the time. With growing technological advances, the devs have been able to craft truly immaculate experiences that have remained unmatched in their entirety. We can easily take Red Dead Redemption 2’s example; the emotional rollercoaster of a title features a gorgeous open world that is still more advanced than anything that has come out since 2018.

So, no one can blame us for having a lot of pent-up excitement for the behemoth that GTA 6 is going to be. There’s just too much to look forward to; whether you are a story fanatic, gameplay enjoyer, or just a maniac who likes running people over, the entry will feature a bit of everything for everyone to enjoy in the best version possible.

What are you more excited for in GTA 6? The graphics, the story, the gameplay, the open world etc.

It will be an awesome game that will likely not be forgotten for decades to come. Yet, many gamers are treating its awaited release as something much greater that will somehow reinvent gaming as we know it. This level of excitement will not only damage our views of GTA 6 upon release but also end up hurting the title because of how harshly people will treat its hiccups.

Nostalgia Doesn’t Help Here

The reason we’re so excited also has partly to do with nostalgia. Like most, I’ve also grown up playing GTA games. I still recall chasing the N symbol on the map, thinking it was a place, or figuring out how missions worked in GTA 3 as a kid. All these memories have made the franchise so beloved that it’s impossible not to be excited about the next entry.

So, it’s only natural that GTA players are imagining the next sequel to be the most idealistic version of their favorite franchise. We are also going to look back fondly on GTA 5 after the next title drops, with fans sharing the same sentiment.

Many users are also expecting Rockstar Games to implement the best parts of prior Grand Theft Auto games into GTA 6, like the exercising and weight mechanics from GTA San Andreas.

But Will Rockstar Hit It Out Of The Park?

We already know that many OG developers who worked on the previous GTA games have already walked away from the GTA 6 production teams. However, that does not mean that the upcoming release will have to suck. Perhaps the new devs who replaced the old talent will surpass our expectations completely.

Rockstar is "seeking perfection" for GTA 6 and will release it when it's "optimized creatively"

The other concern players have with Rockstar is that GTA 6 might come out in a buggy state. Knowing the studio, that seems unlikely since the company boss has already expressed his desire to only launch it when it’s completely perfected. So, we can expect the game to come out in the fall of next year unless there’s more delay.

As long as Rockstar ensures to avoid predatory mechanics and lousy gameplay elements, fans will likely still overlook the small issues that are expected in every AAA release these days.

Let’s Be Hopeful But Also Realistic

All in all, the best way to approach our excitement is to have a pragmatic outlook on the game’s launch. We barely even know any details about the story and protagonists based on the single trailer we’ve seen so far.

While it will undeniably be the biggest event we see in the industry for years to come, it will not redefine gaming as we know it. And we have already had our fair share of trust breaches in recent years after devs messed up prominent game releases with unexpected issues. So, it’s best to be realistic until we learn more.
