GTA 6 Teaser Gathers Over 117M Views In 2 Days; Breaks YouTube Records

For reference, the predecessor's first trailer took more than a decade to clock 100 million views.

Story Highlights

  • GTA 6 is Rockstar’s next installment in the iconic Grand Theft Auto franchise, coming sometime in 2025.
  • The game’s recent first teaser has sent shockwaves across the industry for gaining immense traction.
  • The trailer is now the most-viewed video game trailer of all time in a period of 24 hours.

Rockstar Games was quick to put out the massively anticipated GTA 6 teaser after it got leaked hours before the official reveal. Despite someone’s best efforts to steal Rockstar’s spotlight, no damage was done; in fact, the teaser managed to break multiple YouTube records merely after 24 hours of launching. You’re now looking at the most-viewed video game trailer of all time within the one-day time frame.

YouTube video

Clocking over 116 million views at the time of writing, Guinness World Records notes that the first GTA 6 trailer amassed over 90 million views in 24 hours, breaking the previous record on YouTube set by even non-music videos. We’re mainly referring to Mr. Beast’s Every Country On Earth Fights For $250,000 video here, which was able to garner just about 60 million views in 24 hours—still less than what GTA 6 has mustered up.

Putting things into even more perspective is a comparison between GTA 5’s first trailer and the one of GTA 6. To date, the GTA 5 trailer has accrued around 102 million views. Bear in mind that the latter came out in 2011—more than a decade ago. For GTA 6, it took the title no more than 36 hours to smash that record open. The teaser’s sitting at 117 million at the time of writing, which is flat-out incredible.

To speak in terms of total likes, GTA 6 has broken another record right off the bat. The teaser’s looking hot with about 9.7 million likes, right now, with 10 million approaching soon presumably. Within the 24 hours, though, it gathered 8.9 million likes. This puts the video right up at the top for being the most-liked trailer footage for any video game out in the business.

On the flip side, what’s interesting here is the visual aspect of the trailer. The graphics look incredible, and according to an ex-Rockstar developer, they are going to look “just like this” when the game comes out. I’m pretty sure there’s a high chance the end product could turn out even better, taking into account Rockstar’s past achievements and reputation.

GTA 6’s Dual Protagonists: Lucia and Jason

The 1-and-a-half-minute teaser shows Rockstar’s spin on Miami, FL, calling the state Leonida and the metropolis, Vice City. You can see how the developers incorporated wild real-life events in the GTA 6 trailer, thereby showcasing incredibly accurate satire—a cornerstone of what makes these GTA games so famous. Speaking of which, Rockstar’s post on X announcing the trailer has become the most-liked gaming tweet of all time. Let that sink in for a bit.

GTA 6 will be released sometime in 2025, though there’s no concrete release date as of yet. PC fans have been upset because the title will allegedly skip their platform at launch, releasing only on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the start.
