GTA 6 Devs Upset With Untimely Trailer Release Due To Leak

Rockstar Games released the trailer early after a significant leak.

Story Highlights

  • Rockstar Games had to launch the GTA 6 reveal trailer earlier than the set time due to a major leak.
  • The decision was made because a low-quality version of the trailer was spreading ablaze online.
  • Some of the devs and fans have felt frustration because of the leak and the untimely trailer release.

Rockstar Games has finally launched the GTA 6 reveal trailer, but it came out earlier than the set schedule. The decision to release the trailer early was made due to a huge leak that had led to low-quality footage of the trailer spreading ablaze on the web. The team eventually decided that it was for the best to release the trailer before the leak could spread further. However, the decision came with its own set of issues among the fans and devs alike.

While the premature trailer release has not affected its record-breaking view count on YouTube, it surely frustrated some of the devs who have poured sweat and blood into the development of GTA 6. Several devs shared their opinion on Twitter after the trailer release. The Senior Gameplay Animator at Rockstar Games, Javier Altman, discussed in a now-deleted tweet how he wanted to watch the trailer later on with his colleagues.

This f**king sucks. I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment,” read the deleted tweet.

However, the extremely overwhelming response by the fans did provide some clarity to the saddened dev. Javier added after an hour, “Literally crying tears of joy right now at the response everyone is having. I can’t believe I get to be a part of this.

The spirit of celebration was siphoned out of the devs, but many have also looked at the positivities out of the reveal. The associate principal animator for Rockstar North, Amy Hartley, commented that the dev is proud of everyone for working so diligently on GTA 6.

Similarly, many fans had initially planned to watch the trailer with a watch party of friends and family together like the devs. Still, the abrupt release of the trailer had failed to mitigate any hype from the community. The low-quality leak was struck down soon after doing some harm but failed to spoil a majority of fans. On the other hand, a notable plot detail surrounding Lucia has also been discovered.

Despite being out for only 12 hours, the reveal trailer has already accumulated over 63 million views, with over 7.2 million likes. The one-and-a-half minutes of footage gives us a great look at some of the characters, including the protagonist Lucia and her companion Jason. It mostly focused on showing the satirized version of Florida Miami and a modern twist of Vice City, with stellar beaches, streets, wildlife, and more in gorgeous visuals.

GTA 6 is confirmed to launch on current-gen PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X consoles sometime in 2025. The devs have not revealed a day-one PC release yet.
