Crimson Desert’s First DLC Announced, Releasing In October

Pearl Abyss revealed the expansion at Sony's State of Play, and pre-orders are already live.

Story Highlights

  • Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, the game’s first paid DLC, launches October 15, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
  • The expansion adds sailing, underwater diving, a new region beyond Pywel, and an upgraded castle-building Housing mode.
  • Pre-orders are already live, with a bonus diving set for anyone who buys in before launch.

Pearl Abyss used Sony’s September 3 State of Play to reveal Crimson Desert’s first paid expansion, and it’s a bigger swing than a typical post-launch DLC. Charting the Unknown picks up right after the base game’s ending and opens up an entirely new region for Kliff to explore.

What Charting The Unknown Actually Adds

Pearl Abyss packed a lot into this expansion. Confirmed additions include:

  • Players take command of their own ship to sail to new islands off Pywel’s coast.
  • A diving suit lets Kliff explore beneath the waves for sunken ruins and hidden treasure. Some early footage even shows him riding what looks like a shark companion.
  • An upgraded Housing mode lets players build and customize their own home, rent and manage facilities to earn money, and grow bonds with Pywel’s locals.
  • The Greymanes can construct a castle and get assigned to different tasks, cooking included.
  • New bosses arrive too, ranging from human enemies to a giant mechanical crab wielding lasers.
  • Additional weapons and armor kits are tied into the expansion’s story.

The Story Continues Past The Ending

Charting the Unknown follows Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as they push into a hidden region beyond the desert, one where, per the trailer’s own framing, “whispers of darkness” are starting to gather. The official description promises each character will have to fight through their own trials as turmoil builds around them, with the DLC framed as a way to discover what’s next for Pywel and the people in it.

Release Date And Pre-Order Details

Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown launches October 15, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Pre-orders are already open, starting with the PlayStation Store, and anyone who buys in early gets the Charter’s and Charter’s Light diving sets as a bonus.

The DLC caps off a busy first year for Crimson Desert. Since launching in March 2026, Pearl Abyss has released an Enhanced Version update that stripped out generative AI art, patched in narrative improvements, and added cross-save support. The game has sold over 6 million copies to date, including 2.11 million in Q2 2026 alone, though the developer has also noted only about 10% of players have finished it so far.
