For The First Time In Ages, I Have Hope For Overwatch 2

The devs announced that all heroes will be available from the get-go.

Story Highlights

  • With the first developer update of the year, things are looking up for Overwatch 2.
  • The devs revealed that all heroes, new and old will be available to all players at absolutely no cost.
  • The devs also showcased a new way to get mythic skins for free.
Since the release of Overwatch 2, it has been the target of intense hate and negative reception. This is partly because player expectations were extremely high, but Blizzard’s initiative was incoherent. They were under enormous pressure, so they made terrible decisions that accelerated Overwatch’s demise. To recover from the damage, they even released Overwatch 2 on Steam, but this did not go as planned.

Players, including myself, were furious and stormed the game with negative reviews. About 80 percent of the reviews were negative, making it the most negatively reviewed AAA game in recent years. But, despite all this, the developers have been hard at work to turn a new leaf and regain that original charm that the Overwatch franchise once had. This leads us to a new developer interview which makes the franchise’s future seem bright once more.

Massive Hero Changes In Overwatch 2

Right now in Overwatch 2, heroes have to be unlocked through the battle pass which requires a lot of play time, or through the store. but starting from season 10, all new heroes will be immediately unlocked when they launch, in addition, all existing heroes will also be unlocked for players. This change makes it so that players can start using all their new and existing characters as soon as they launch the game.

Heroes are one of the most exciting additions to the game, and we want all of our players to have immediate access to them when they launch.”

The Overwatch 2 heroes as well as the heroes from the original game will be unlocked for free. Players now have slightly more reason to buy it as Blizzard is increasing the number of coins that can be earned by the players in the free pass to 600. In addition to these changes, a new hero called Venture is also joining the ranks of Overwatch 2.

Venture is an upcoming damage hero and will be the 40th hero added to the game. She has some unique and interesting abilities, including the ability Burrow which lets her dig underground, be immune to damage, and do AOE damage to enemies in an area where she decides to emerge. She also has a dash that damages enemies in its path and gives her 50 shield that decays after a few seconds, giving her that DPS flare.

Mythic Skins Rehaul

In Season 10 of Overwatch 2, Blizzard is also changing the means to earn, upgrade, and unlock legendary hero skins. Players will be able to unlock mythic skins from the past and current seasons through the new mythic shop. Players also get to decide how far into each mythic skin they would like to progress in case they want to switch over to a new skin mid-way.

Mythic skins will be available in the shop two seasons after their debut. This means Mythic hero skins from seasons 1 to 7 will be available in the Mythic shop in season 10. Although late, I think this is one of the best additions to Overwatch 2 has seen in the last year.

Blizzard also revealed the brand-new game mode titled Clash, which was initially introduced at BlizzCon 2023. The game mode will be released this year and will be bundled with two new maps. Furthermore, Season 11 will introduce Runasapi a new push map along with reworks of several existing maps including Colosseo.

Conclusion

With Blizzard in such a horrifying state, everyone thought that only doom awaited Overwatch 2, But it seems that Blizzard has learned from their mistakes and is willing to listen to the community. It’s safe to say that players are very pleased with the changes Blizzard is making regarding heroes and mythic skins in the next season, and I hope that the devs will keep adhering to the fanbase and take the franchise back to its roots.

The FPS was released in early access on October 4, 2022, before launching alongside the Sixth season on August 10, 2023. It can be played on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC.

eXputer’s Muhammad Haris Umer rated Overwatch 2 with a 2.8/5 score in his review, criticizing it for lackluster content and overloaded servers but praised for fast-paced and balanced gameplay.
