Story Highlights
- Battlefield 6’s player count, sales numbers, and player impressions surpass Black Ops 7.
- Black Ops 7 is a solid multiplayer shooter, but the horrible campaign and AI content ruin it.
- Battlefield 6 has made vast improvements over its predecessor and deserves this win.
It’s that time of the year again, Battlefield and Call of Duty duking it out. It’s a magical time for co-op shooter fans as they got two treats back to back, but who has the time to spare? Ultimately, you know you have to pick one. So then, what will it be? This heated rivalry has been ongoing for years now, and honestly, this healthy (ahem) competition has consistently pushed both franchises.
Call of Duty has always been the more arcade-y, action-packed fun, while Battlefield offers a more grounded, realistic, and tactical approach to competitive shooting. But there’s got to be one better, right? Well, in this current matchup, the scale tips in favor of Battlefield 6. Interested? Black Ops 7: Bad Decisions Ruin It
Call of Duty was one of my favorite franchises growing up, and not for the multiplayer. To be honest, I’m much more of a single-player games guy, so the campaign was my jam, and man, was it amazing. Original Modern Warfare and Black Ops are some of the best shooting campaigns I’ve played. Unfortunately, that beautiful Call of Duty is no longer around.

Over the years, Call of Duty has devolved into a mess. Soulless, badly written stories, microtransactions, and the same-old mistakes in every subsequent entry have stagnated the franchise. What contained the genre’s best campaigns now has the worst. Provided Black Ops 4 had an amazing campaign, it all went downhill after that, especially this latest entry. A sequel to the legendary Black Ops 2 plot completely butchered; it’s a travesty.
However, don’t let the horrible campaign fool you. Every effort went into the multiplayer, it seems. Black Ops 7 is some of the most fun CoD action I’ve had in a long time. Excellent maps, snappy and fast-paced combat, genuinely entertaining gameplay, enjoyable game modes, the list goes on. Black Ops 7’s multiplayer is genuinely amazing despite the AI-infested campaign debacle and the overall worsening image of the franchise.

Battlefield 6: A Return To Form
Now it’s true that Black Ops 7 has significantly improved its multiplayer game, which is the core for 90% of the people, and it’s definitely praise-worthy, but Battlefield 6’s improvements kind of overshadow it still.
First, the campaign. I’ll be honest, as a shooter campaign enthusiast, Battlefield 6, too, disappointed me. Why is it so hard to get a good shooting game campaign these days? Characters were uninteresting, the level design was so-so, and the story itself was pretty weak. Still, I’d say it was a tad more impressive than Black Ops 7.
As for the multiplayer, that’s where things got real good. After the absolute mess that was Battlefield 2042, it seems the series is back on track. With Battlefield 6, we got everything we fell in love with in the first place. Class roles are back, and they’re more important than ever. There’s strategic depth, meaningful action, high-stakes gameplay, grounded battles, and even a bit of fast-paced action to challenge Call of Duty.

I feel like the map selection could’ve been a lot better, but that doesn’t change the fact that Battlefield is back to doing what it does best. It’s so unbelievably engaging that it’s hard to put down, and every match keeps you completely on edge; it’s amazing. I have no doubt Battlefield 6 deserves all the praise and fame it’s getting.
Call Of Duty Needs To Step Up
I think this loss to Battlefield should be an eye-opener for Activision. Everything from sales numbers to player count has Battlefield 6 beating out Black Ops 7. Activision can no longer afford to just exploit the franchise’s unreal fan following and keep doing what they want to.
Black Ops 7 is an improvement in certain fields, yes. The horrible Skill-based matchmaking is gone, the cosmetics are more grounded, and the multiplayer is the best of Call of Duty in a long time. However, is it enough? Far from it. Black Ops 6’s biggest complaint was the horrible campaign, and even the previews for Black Ops 7 were negative. Yet nothing was done to fix it. Many other monetization decisions remained unchanged as well.
The result? Battlefield 6 pulled ahead. This is an ideal time for Call of Duty to reassess some of its strategies and go back to being the legendary classic it once was. It’s more important than ever now, especially when gamers have alternate options to play. I hope Call of Duty takes this as a challenge and strives for improvement.
