Story Highlights
- Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Capcom’s new IP, is a creative blend of multiple concepts.
- With an artistic presentation reminiscent of Okami, the game paints a beautiful picture.
- With slick action, strategic gameplay, tower defense, and base building, it has something for everyone.
When it comes to delivering bangers after bangers, you can always count on Capcom. With majestic franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, and Devil May Cry under its banner, the company doesn’t shy away from flexing its muscles once in a while with mind-blowing remakes or heartwarming revivals of past gems.
Capcom’s giants may be numbered, but it continues to pursue new IPs and creative works now and then. One such example is its newest dabble into the “let’s put in everything.” An innovative, memorable gem, one called Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.
Artistic Appeal To The Max
Back when the game was first revealed, I dismissed it as something minor. I wanted to see Capcom’s big guns and foolishly discarded this gem. Upon a closer look sometime later did I realize how impressive it all felt. The Okami vibe was strong here, and the blend of genres held a lot of potential.

Even before the gameplay, its art style and visual presentation won me over. A major part of Okami’s appeal was the brilliant choice of making it an artistic piece. And let’s just say Kunitsu-Gami isn’t fighting a losing battle either. The character design, scenic environments, monsters you fight, and beautiful combat animations are all a work of art.
Capcom’s determination to produce something unique and innovative every time genuinely deserves applause. I thought Okami was the most artistically explosive thing the company had done, but it has competition now.
I strongly believe Capcom is the top game developer currently. A strong recent catalouge of high-quality games, new promising IP’s, releasing classic collections with a lot of love, and relatively fair business practices. They’re absolutely killing it right now and it makes me so happy.

No Genre Gets Left Out
I’m sure you didn’t come here to see me talk endlessly about how beautiful it looks. You came for the fascinating “blend of genres,” what exactly did Capcom put together here, so without further ado.
Want an action game with slick combat? Kunitsu-Gami has got you covered. Is tower defense more up your alley? Capcom says no worries. What, you wish to enjoy a strategy game? Kunitsu-Gami strikes once again. Perhaps you want a base-building game instead? Well, Capcom still won’t let you go. There’s a lot more from where that came from, but I think you get the idea well enough.

Capcom’s creative experimentation this time around is to merge all the genres out there in an artistic adventure gamers of every taste can appreciate. And worry not, this is not a meaningless merger where nothing makes sense. It’s a perfect amalgamation of individual factors that make a majestic final picture.
Let me give a bit of an idea. The game essentially has you defend a goddess named Yoshiro, while playing as Soh, her bodyguard. During the daytime, you can plan your strategies, purify the village, recruit helping hands including fighters, archers, and support units, and await the ominous nightfall. That’s when monstrosities strike. You have to keep Yoshiro safe while thwarting this threat.
Use strategic placement of units, think about your next move carefully, and of course, jump into the action yourself. This is where you get to enjoy Capcom’s brilliantly crafted fast-paced combat. All this creates a gameplay loop you never get bored of. With endless possibilities and attractive mechanics at your disposal, it’s an adventure unlike anything you’ve experienced.

All in all, Capcom has crafted something truly majestic, one that stands out even among the company’s towering giants. Its unique concept and pitch-perfect execution make it one hell of a memorable adventure. Can’t trust my word alone? No problem at all. There’s a demo available right now.

Once you’ve tried it for yourself, you can see just how creative of an amalgam it really is. Honestly, this is what I genuinely appreciate, developers experimenting with arcane ideas and imaginative concepts, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. And I can always count on Capcom. Kunitsu-Gami is truly one of a kind. Plus, all the Okami references are being put to good use, since the game comes with an exciting Okami collab.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess comes to the PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on July 19, 2024.
