Story Highlights
- The PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony’s latest addition to the long-running family of PlayStation consoles.
- Despite its lofty price tag of $699, the PS5 Pro makes great use of its hardware and added specs.
- Games such as Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered look phenomenal on the Pro.
Sony’s latest addition to the PlayStation family has been unequivocally met with mixed reception, with many chiming in together to call out the console’s high price tag as opposed to what you’re getting in return. That is to say, it’s a shame that the Pro console does not come with a disc drive by default—prepare to pull out another $79.99 from your wallet for that little add-on.
However, now that I own the thing after undergoing a difficult session with my conscience, I’ve fired up more than a few different games on my end, only to find out that this console is taking no prisoners.
The Lofty Price Debate
I do agree with this critique of the console that it’s right up there in the upper-level premium pricing bracket and the cold, hard fact that the detachable disk drive and even the vertical stand are sold separately from the base $699 sticks out like a sore thumb. Perhaps, this is what has caused diminishing interest in the console, right to the point that scalpers have started to sell the unit at loss.
Are you getting a PS5 Pro? Why or why not?

In that sense, you would also need an equally-specced TV to pair the PlayStation 5 Pro with. If not, you’re missing out on the console’s full potential. That means spending more if you haven’t sorted a quality OLED television yet. We’re obviously talking big bucks here.
On the other side of the coin, let’s now take a look at what the PlayStation 5 Pro can bring to the table. Games like Baldur’s Gate 3 have a lot to offer in the performance department, running at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, even in split-screen mode. The scene follows suit for other high-profile titles, including Stellar Blade and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
How You Get Your Money’s Worth With The PlayStation 5 Pro
The graphical and visual fidelity of the PlayStation 5 Pro on certain games — if you’re an enthusiast — is enough to get you by on the Pro console. I’ve been taken aback by how fluid and gorgeous Horizon Forbidden West looks and feels after nabbing that “PS5 Pro Enhanced” tag.
And it’s not just Forbidden West, the PlayStation 5 Pro can make all of your games run and feel better. That’s the beauty of the console that I’m experiencing first-hand right now. As someone who craves high performance in games without having to worry about upgrading to better PC hardware every year, the PS5 Pro acts as the perfect safe haven.
I am buying the PS5 Pro, and here’s why

Before I get onto the next section, I will say this loud and clear. For many — heck, I’d say most — the base PlayStation 5 is sufficient enough to run games in a fashionable manner, so you don’t feel left out at the end of the day. The PS5 Pro, on the other hand, is a device for enthusiasts, one that guarantees them the very best in console gaming bar none.
That is why those who are budget-strapped and not really looking to upgrade will find no logical or practical reason to dole out almost $700 on the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Games To Look Out For As A New PS5 Pro Owner
If you’ve been meaning to pick up the Pro console yourself or have done that already, you absolutely cannot go on without getting a taste of the following games. Take my word for the latter.
Horizon Forbidden West
It’s unbelievable how insanely good Horizon Forbidden West runs on the PS5 Pro. I played Guerilla’s action-adventure RPG back when it came out on the PS5, but oh boy, the difference between these two versions is that of night and day. The game’s just on another level, taking into account the resolution and overall graphical clarity.
Stellar Blade
ShiftUp’s Stellar Blade is among the anointed titles that have received a PS5 Pro patch and let me tell you this: There’s no better display of the Pro console’s PSSR tech right now. Not only do you get an unlocked frame rate that I’ve personally seen go up to 80 FPS, but PSSR makes it sure that you get upscaled 4K as a visual treat.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Another high-tier RPG that demonstrates what the PS5 Pro genuinely stands for. Digital Foundry released a comprehensive review of both iterations of the title. Best give it a watch if you’re more of a visual learner.
Helldivers 2
Last but not least, Helldivers 2 is out there proving that live service shooters can be done right. Playing on the Pro makes it feel like a completely different title. The 60 FPS frame rate becomes largely constant, pixelations are significantly less, and the overall experience is just incredibly better. Don’t miss this one.
