ARK Crystal Wyvern Types
All of the Crystal Wyverns in ARK are extremely dangerous if provoked. One good thing about them is that they don’t attack unless you provoke them. That said, their heir will attack at any chance they see, and defending against them is difficult.

Crystal Wyverns deal an enormous amount of damage despite not being boss level. Fighting a Crystal Wyvern is the closest thing to a Boss Battle in ARK Survival. And then it’s worth knowing that you will not be able to outrun this creature. Its flying speed surpasses a normal Wyvern and rivals the speed of the great Grifin. Now that’s one creature you don’t want to mess with.

These were the general characteristics of the Crystal Wyverns, and now let’s look at each type of the Crystal Wyvern individually.
Ember Crystal Wyvern
The Ember Crystal Wyvern in ARK may not look daunting, but don’t let that fool you. Ember Crystal Wyvern is the most damaging Crystal Wyvern ARK. You can find this crystal Wyvern in the yellow crystal areas of Crystal Isles. It has tremendous damage over time breath attack, which increases drastically with the target’s hp. The ability the Ember Crystal Wyvern possesses enhances that even further.

When using the fire breath with the Ember Crystal Wyvern, there will be a bar filling called Rage Bar. The more you attack with your breath attack, the more the Rage Bar will increase. This rage bar increases your damage for breath, melee, and damage over time.

The Ember Crystal Wyvern is already the most damaging crystal Wyvern, but it will be invincible with that buff. Hands down the best Crystal Wyvern in ARK for both PvE and PvP. It’s worth noting that herbivores won’t be taking as much damage as the other creatures.
Tropical Crystal Wyvern
The Tropical Crystal Wyvern in ARK has been one of our favorites at Exputer. It’s a great and helpful type of Crystal Wyvern in ARK Survival Evolved due to its unique advantageous abilities. You can find the Tropical Crystal Wyvern in the blue tropical areas on the Crystal Isles. It is classified as a water Wyvern, so you get some pretty cool advantages by flying closer to the water and touching it. You will have to make sure to touch the water with Wyvern’s claw since the wings don’t seem to work.

It’s also worth noting that if you fly too close to the water, then the Tropical Crystal Wyvern will dismount you. You will be able to ride it again, though. Anyways, once you fly near the water with the Tropical Crystal Wyvren, you will get a buff called “Hydrated.” This buff will increase your speed, damage, and health regeneration for 30 whole seconds. This is a great boost for all the abilities you can use with a Crystal Wyvern in ARK.
Blood Crystal Wyvern
This Ark crystal wyvern type has a unique ability. The Blood Crystal Wyvern is red and looks better than the other two. It has very nice skin to him. If it’s about looks, then this Crystal Wyvern is number one. You can find the Blood Crystal Wyvern in the red crystal areas of the Crystal Isles. We called the Blood Crystal Wyvern a Vampire Wyvern earlier, and well, the ability it has, classifies it for that.

The Blood Crystal Wyvern can regenerate its health at an exceptional rate. When your Wyvern’s health is below the total percentage, you can restore its health by attacking the enemies with your Blood Breath. Once you attack, you will notice a red trail coming from them, and the more creatures you attack, the more health you will regenerate. You can also eat a corpse to get a flat increase in health for the Blood Crystal Wyvern in ARK.
Crystal Wyvern Uses
The Crystal Wyvern has tons of uses in ARK, and they can do what you can with a normal Wyvern way better. But if you don’t know about the uses of a normal Wyvern, here are some tips for you:
- You can collect Thach and Cactus Sap much efficiently by flapping the Wyvern’s wings. Though, you won’t be able to loot wood as much efficiently.
- Wyverns are swift flying creatures with a noticeably low stamina consumption. That’s one of the reasons that they are highly preferred when it comes to battles.
- Due to their speed, stamina, and carrying capacity, they are also a great helper for scouting.
- Wyverns have a bite attack which helps you gather up meat. They are one of the best, if not the best flying creatures when it comes to collecting meat.
- You can get Wyverns in groups to attack bigger bosses. On top of that, the damage they deal is excellent, so they are great damaging war buddies.
These are some of the main and major useful things you can do with Wyverns, amongst many others. But when it comes to Crystal Wyverns, you can do much more. You can use Blood Crystal Wyvern army to take down even a Titan. All in all, with the abilities of Crystal Wyvern, you can do almost anything in ARK Survival Evolved.
Taming Crystal Wyvern
After discussing the usefulness and type of Crystal Wyvern in ARK, we know that it’s worth having one for oneself. Taming the Crystal Wyvern may sound simple, however, it is a challenging task to pull off. To tame one, you need to feed one with Primal crystals. But first, the problem is how to get the Primal Crystal since the only way to get them is from the Crystal Wyverns.
We already know how dangerous the Crystal Wyverns are. Then secondly, once you get the Primal Crystals, the Wyvern tend to fly around a lot, so feeding them the Primal Crystals become difficult. That’s why we have given the best methods to get the Primal Crystal, along with how to feed the Crystal Wyvern in Ark easily without failing.

How To Get Primal Crystals
Getting the Primal Crystals in ARK is no easy job since you will have to get them from the Crystal Wyvern themselves, as we have already mentioned how fierce they can be. On top of that, they always fly around, so getting them killed or tranquilized for the Primal Crystal will prove to be difficult. However, there is a way around it by building a Wyvern trap.
Chances are you are already aware of this trap for various needs. But if, for some reason, you are not aware of it, here is a simple overview of how the Wyvern Trap works. You need to place a behemoth gate inlined with some stone pillars. The gap between the pillars should be wide enough that a pteranodon can go through but not a Wyvern.
Now ride your pteranodon, provoke a Wyvern, and then go through the behemoth door and stone pillars. Lastly, close the behemoth door with the help of your friend or the preinstalled keypad. Now tranquilize the trapped Wyvern to loot the Primal Crystals. It is worth noting that higher-level Crystal Wyverns have more Primal Crystals. Here is a complete and quick guide on Building a Wyvern Trap in ARK.
How To Tame The Crystal Wyvern
To tame the Crystal Wyvern in ARK, you need to feed them with Primal Crystals. But when you feed a Crystal Wyvern a Primal Crystal, it goes away flying. That’s the biggest problem with taming a Crystal Wyvern.
Give or take, you need to feed a Crystal Wyvern at least eight Primal Crystals with a one-minute break in between every feed. And when the Crystal Wyvern is flying around everywhere when you are feeding it, taming it will become challenging. But the Prone Method is the best way around it to Tame the Crystal Wyvern in ARK.
As the name suggests, you have to prone on a Crystal Wyvern while it’s flying. But it is easier said than done, so here is how to do it properly. Before feeding a Crystal Wyvern, start to climb on it either from its wings or however you feel like it. Now prone beside either of its shoulder blade, basically at its neck and the start of the wing.
Positioning is crucial when it comes to the Prone method. Because when the Crystal Wyvern is flying around horizontally, you can fall. So pay extra attention to achieving that prone position and feed it with a Primal Crystal. Now keep feeding it till you can finally tame the Crystal Wyvern in ARK.
