Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer: BEST Build Guide

The Sorcerer Class in Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the most offensive classes it has to offer but it comes at the price of having minimal sustain and defence.

Baldur’s Gate 3 just received one of the best patches we have seen for it in a while. It introduced several new features like class reworks, cosmetic updates, and a plethora of new spells. Owing to the addition of the new spells, we have designed our Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer build guide to showcase one of the best builds for the class.

Key Takeaways
  • Sorcerers in Baldur’s Gate 3 are usually DPS monsters but die very easily.
  • One of the best Sorcerer builds is the Wood-Elf class with a Draconic Bloodline subclass.
  • You have to focus on your Charisma stats the most for this build.
  • The optimal Metamagic skills that you should go for are Twinned Spells and Distant skills.

How To Build Your Sorcerer Character In BG3?

If you are a seasoned RPG gamer, then you are probably more than familiar with what classes are in games like Baldur’s Gate 3. For the Sorceress build, we need to start our build as early as the class selection. You can select any class you want, but for ideal stats, we recommend using the ones we will discuss.

For a Sorceress build, the best class you can go for is the Wood Half-Elf class. This is primarily because of the bonus Charisma scaling you get with this race. It will not have the most defensive or health-based stats however, it will give you very high DPS.

Another class that you can opt for is the Tiefling or a Gold Dwarf. Picking any of these will give you the abilities you need as a viable sorcerer. The key abilities that you want for your character are Charisma, Consitution, and Dexterity. Each of them is important based on the order they were mentioned.

As far as the Background is concerned, we will be looking for something that gives us the most damage. For that, picking Intimidation, Persuasion, and Deception is the norm for this specific build. You can also recruit for Religion points that may work well with this build.

Which Subclass Should You Opt For Sorcerer Build

There are many subclasses you can go for when building a sorcerer. However, we will be focusing on the Draconic Bloodline build. You can opt for some other subclasses, but none of them will nearly be as helpful. Using the Draconic Bloodline will help you unlock some pretty nifty spells that can potentially obliterate your foes in an instant.

The other possible alternate to the mentioned subclass is the Wild Magic Sorcerer subclass. However, this build is not for the light-hearted. It is one of the best builds in terms of fun, but it is based around Wild Magic. Wild Magic applies completely random effects when you cast spells. These effects can range from teleportation all the way to spawning something you don’t want near you.

The Best Way For Spell Progression In Baldur’s Gate 3

The final and most important part of our Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer Build is the progression order. There are certain spells and Cantrips. Leveling up will unlock more spots and give you access to higher-tier spells as well. The details for each level are listed as follows.

Level 1 Progression

At level 1, you can only pick 4 Cantrips; as per effectiveness, we suggest opting for Dancing Lights, Chill Touch, Acid Splash, and Firebolt. As for the spells, you should go for Magic Missile and Chromatic Orb. These will give you a good balance between burst, range, and sustain in the field to emerge victorious in most battles.

Level 2 Progression

At level 2, you’ll have to focus on your Sorcery Points and Metamagic skills. To start out, you can possibly go for Twinned and Distant Metamagic out of the available four options. Twinned Spell will help you out against hordes of enemies, while Distant will increase the range of some of your spells, allowing you to kite opponents with ease. You can also try learning new spells like Burning Hands, which will give you a lot of burst AoE damage.

Level 3 Progression

Next, at level 3, you can pick up another Metamagic spell. You can pick one from Heightened, Subtle, or Quickened Spells. Among these three, the best one is likely Quickened, as it will greatly decrease the cooldown time of your spell casts.

Level 4 Progression

Next up, at level 4, you will get another Spell Spot along with a Cantrip. For the Spell Spot, you can either go for Misty Step or Sleep to help you in battle. As for the Cantrip, Shocking Grasp is one of the best choices because it stuns and deals damage to your enemies.

Level 5 Progression

Finally, at level 5, you will gain access to a tier 3 spell spot. In our experience going for Counterspell or Haste provides to be the most useful. As the names suggest, Counterspell will help you counter your foes with ease, while Haste helps you with casting at greater speeds.

With that, the time has come to formally conclude our Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorcerer build guide. Hopefully, you found this article informative enough to help in your sorcerer builds.
