There is no denying the fact that CD Projekt Red overpromised as to what Cyberpunk 2077 was going to be and highly underdelivered it. This created a huge backlash from players who had waited for almost a decade for Cyberpunk to release. Fortunately, CD Project Red owned up to its mistakes and has been making amendments through different patches and updates. Cyberpunk 2077’s latest patch, also known as the 1.7 update, includes a number of promising changes in it.
- Cyberpunk 2077‘s latest update 1.7 promises to fix a lot of bugs, including the infamous “cops spawning behind you” issue.
- The update will also improve melee combat by introducing new actions and animations.
- Other changes include improved AI, a new photo mode, and bug fixes for quests and side activities.
- The update is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2023.
Release Date For The 1.7 Update
Okay, so first things first, when will they actually release the update? The release date is not confirmed yet, but you can get a good guess of when it’s going to be released if you look at the previous patterns of Cyberpunk’s updates. Cyberpunks’ last patch, called the update 1.6, came out on 6th September 2022. The patch before that, called the 1.5 update, was released on 15th February.
Now, if you look closely at the dates, you will notice that there is typically a delay of 6 months between the game’s update releases. So taking that pattern into consideration, I think it is safe to conclude that update 1.7 as well as “Phantom Liberty” DLC will be released sometime in March 2023.
Overhauled AI For The Cops
Anyone who has played Cyberpunk 2077 knows how dumb and gullible the AI of cops was in the game. Like you could do something illegal with them standing right in front of them, and they couldn’t care any less. Or something even worse, the cops were so lazy that they did not even bother chasing you if you ran away from them. And these are just a few examples of their dumbness in Cyberpunk 2077.
So this made the cops in Cyberpunk 2077 completely useless; it is safe to say that the game wouldn’t have been any different if the cops weren’t present in it at all. Fortunately, the developer of the game mentioned that the Cops in Cyberpunk 2077 would be overhauled, which means they won’t be as dumb as they used to be.
Overhauled Max Tac
One of the biggest problems with Max Tac was that they had ghostly powers. Basically, what I mean by this is that they used to teleport right in front of you out of thin air. In comparison, they were supposed to come out of their AVs. Fortunately, the developer mentions that the “ghostly powers” of the Max Tac won’t exist anymore and also says that the “players should watch out for them”.
Improved Melee Combat
Up next is the melee rework; there are two main problems with melee combat in Cyberpunk 2077. The first is that it lacks variety and gets way too repetitive. The second problem is that it is too overpowered for enemies to handle. It could either be because the enemies are too dumb to tackle your strikes or because your strikes just cause too much damage.
Either way, this made the game a cakewalk even on higher difficulties, consequently removing the challenge aspect. The developers have promised to fix these issues by claiming that they will be introducing new melee actions in the update. As well as make enemies smarter at combat, so hopefully, you won’t feel like you are fighting a brain-dead bot anymore.
New Cyberware
Now, this is probably the juiciest part of the update. the developers have claimed that they will be putting more attention to the cyberwear, which was previously neglected. At the same time, new cyberware won’t do much functionality-wise, but it sure as hell looks cool aesthetically.
The fact that the protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077 was a walking killing machine that could one-shot enemies yet still look like an ordinary human was quite comical. However, with the addition of new cyberware, that issue won’t exist anymore.
Final Verdict
Although Cyberpunk has had its fair share of criticisms, mainly because of the bugs and glitches, it is still an amazing game at the core. Previously you had to look past these bugs and glitches to enjoy the game. But with the release of the the update, I don’t think that will be needed anymore.
