Out of all the weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, we have four snipers; The MCPR-300, the Signal 50, the LA-B 330, formally known as the R700, and the SP-X 80. With the SP-X 80 widely considered the best sniper in Modern Warfare 2, how do the rest stack up? To find out, we’ll go through all the snipers’ pros and cons and see for ourselves.

The MCPR-300
The MCPR-300 is one of the first few starting weapons you have unlocked when starting Modern Warfare 2. Thankfully, it’s an absolute long-range beast. With the right attachments, it’s capable of dropping dozens of players from across the map.
Since it’s a starter weapon, you can start leveling it up quite early and create a weapon that fits your playstyle and helps you dominate the playing field however, since it’s a heavy weapon, its bulk prevents you from being very aggressive, and rounding corners for shots. Therefore, it’s best to hold a sightline and finish off any oncoming enemies.
Best Attachments
The best attachments for the MCPR-300 are as follows:
- Muzzle: Nilsound 90
The Nilsound 90, due to a bug, doesn’t list any benefits or drawbacks in the weaponsmith menu. However, we’ve discovered that it drastically increases the bullet velocity and range of your gun. This will help you deal far more damage than you dealt initially. However, since the attachment is quite heavy, we add other attachments to speed up the gun as much as possible.
- Laser: FSS OLE-V Laser
The FSS OLE-V Laser increases your ADS speed, allowing you to quickly ADS around corners and therefore helping you quick-scope your opponent.
- Magazine: 5-Round Mag
The 5-Round Mag decreases your magazine capacity from 10 to 5 but also gives an increase to ADS speed and Sprint-To-Fire speed. The sacrifice is well worth it as you don’t fully utilize your entire magazine before reloading, so it’s not a big step down.
- Rear Grip: Cronen Cheetah Grip
The Cronen Cheetah Grip, like the rest of our attachments, increases the ADS and Sprint-To-Fire speeds.
- Bolt: Cronen Smooth Bolt
The Cronen Smooth Bolt allows you to quickly rechamber bullets after every shot, making it extremely easy to recover from a missed shot with a follow-up shot. However, the attachment also increases the sniper’s recoil so you’ll have to get used to recentering your shot every time you fire.
The Signal 50
The Signal 50 is a semiautomatic sniper rifle that is extremely easy to control in the heat of battle. Armed with 50-caliber rounds and the ability to bunker down and passively take down oncoming opponents. It has an extremely slow ADS speed as well as a slow sprint-to-fire speed.
Therefore, making it difficult to adopt a more aggressive playstyle. Thankfully, it makes up for its shortcomings with an extremely fast fire rate allowing you to hit quick follow-up shots in case you miss.
Best Attachments
The best attachments for Signal 50 are as follows:
- Barrel: FSS Jetstream
The FSS Jetstream barrel increases damage range and hip-fire accuracy. This allows you to no-scope your opponent in close quarters as well as giving you that extra damage boost you need to finish off your enemies.
- Laser: Schlager PEQ Box IV
The Schlager PEQ laser drastically increases ADS speed and flinch resistance allowing you to land a shot on an unsuspecting opponent quicker than ever.
- Stock: FSS Echo Stock
The FSS Echo Stock improves recoil control and increases ADS speed.
- Underbarrel: FSS Sharkfin 90
The Sharkfin 90 improves your accuracy on the move by reducing recoil but will also slow you down, leading to slow speed with better accuracy.
- Rear Grip: Stalwart Grip
The Stalwart Grip increases ADS speed and sprint-to-fire speed, allowing you to adopt a more aggressive playstyle.
LA-B 330
The LA-B 330 is a lightweight bolt-action sniper rife with extremely high mobility. It’s great for quick scoping and aggressively chasing down kills. It has extremely good mobility and handling, allowing you to turn corners and quick-scope enemies with ease.
However, it falls short when compared to the SP-X 80, as the latter has better mobility and handling stats paired with higher damage. Therefore, it’s hard to recommend the LA-B 330 if you’ve already unlocked the SP-X 80. In case you haven’t unlocked the SP-X 80, kit out the LA-B 330 with these attachments, and you’ll have a strong gun built for maximum speed, damage, and range.
Best Attachments
The best attachments for the LA-B 330 are as follows:
- Muzzle: TA CG76
The TA CG76 reduces the gun’s damage drop-off at range as well as reducing recoil when firing.
- Barrel: 23.5″ Fluted R-67
Like the TA CG76, the 23.5″ Fluted R-67 barrel increases the gun’s range and minimizes its damage drop-off.
- Stock: ZLR T70 Pad Extension
The ZLR T70 Pad Extension stock decreases ADS time, allowing you to aim and shoot faster.
- Ammunition: .300 High Velocity
More powerful bullets deal much more damage to enemies and can lead to one-shot kills to the torso.
- Comb: Aim-Assist 406
Paired with the ZLR T70, the Aim-Assist 406 increases ADS speed to levels where you can instantaneously react to nearby enemies and shoot them.
The SP-X 80
The SP-X 80 is one of the sniper rifles that you’d expect from Call of Duty. Capable of one-shot kills while also being light and easy to use. It is an extremely powerful sniper rifle that is a strong dominating force on the battlefield. It allows for a quick run-and-gun style of play as well as a more passive playstyle if necessary. By kitting out the gun for maximum mobility, ADS speed, and fire rate, you can create an absolute powerhouse of a gun.
Best Attachments
The best attachments for the SP-X 80 are as follows:
- Laser: 1MW Laser Box
The 1MW laser box increases hip fire accuracy and hip fire recoil control. This allows you to no-scope nearby enemies with relative ease.
- Barrel: 11.5″ T-H4 Barrel
The 11.5″ T-H4 barrel increases ADS speed and hip recoil control at the cost of hip fire accuracy, bullet velocity, and damage range. Despite the drawbacks, the barrel is useful as it allows for a much faster ADS and allows you to one-tap enemies faster.
- Optic: Schlager 4x
Since you will be firing at range, a scope is necessary. The Schlager 4x gives you 4x magnification but also increases ADS time. If you prefer the stock scope, feel free to use it. However, this scope will allow you to hit further away targets much easier.
- Stock: Ravage-8
The Ravage-8 stock drastically increases ADS speed, sprint speed, and crouch movement speed. This allows you to move around quickly with the gun in hand and reposition yourself in the heat of battle. However, this also increases recoil, so you will have to practice to get the hang of the increased kickback.
- Underbarrel: FTac Ripper 56
The FTac Ripper 56 increases recoil stabilization, hip-fire accuracy, and aiming stability which allows you to take down targets at a distance easily. However, it also decreases ADS speed and walking speed to a very small degree.
Verdict
Currently, the SP-X 80 is the Modern Warfare 2 Best Sniper rifle. It is the most consistent and effective sniper out there. The aggressive playstyle adopted while using the gun lets you gun down hordes of enemies with ease. Quickly cutting corners and shooting allows you to surprise your opponents and delete them with ease. Being able to land shots as well as hold down a pathway quickly is extremely effective and will definitely give your opponent a run for their money.
A close second is the Signal 50 rifle. Its extremely fast fire rate sets it apart from the rest, as it allows you to recover quickly from any missed shots and easily pick off enemies. It is an extremely forgiving gun to use and is a very reliable option for any player out there.
The MCPR-300, coming in third, has the highest damage but is also extremely unforgiving to use. It’s slow and forces you to adopt a more passive playstyle which is a deal breaker for most players.
Lastly, LA-B is a lightweight sniper that is an early alternative to the SP-X 80. It’s great for quick scopes and quick firing but is overshadowed by the rest of the snipers in the game
