Guide: How To Catch Stardew Valley Catfish

Our Complete Guide On How To Find Catfish

Fishing is an extremely effective way of earning money within the early hours of Stardew Valley, especially since it takes your first crops a while to become ready for harvest. Instead of loitering around searching for valuable things to scavenge, players can simply sink some time at the dock for a lot of profit.

The fish you catch can also be used in dishes to restore health or stamina, allowing you to extend your work time or recover from damage dealt by monsters. The sea and rivers are one of the easiest sources of cooking ingredients in the game.

Most importantly though, a number of these fish can also be used to complete the Community Centre bundles. These allow you to progress the plot of the game and unlock some special features not available through any other means.

So with this guide, we’ll show you how to catch the Stardew Valley Catfish.

River Fish Bundle.

Although the Stardew Valley Catfish cannot be used to create any unique dishes or other craftable items, it is an essential component of the River Fish Bundle. This is comprised of the following items:

  • Catfish.
  • Shad.
  • Sunfish.
  • Tiger Trout.

Completing any Fish Bundles will cause the Fish Tank to be repaired in the Community Center. It doesn’t matter which one you choose. It can be this one, or the Lake and Night Fishing Bundles, which require the Sturgeon and Walleye respectively.

To improve your chances of catching the Stardew Valley Catfish, we highly recommend that you bring along some Bait. Acquiring and equipping this item is an extremely simply process, which will save you a lot of time and effort.

After that, players can find the Catfish in a few different locations over different seasons. The only constant requirements are that the time has to be between 6am and 12am, and that it has to be raining. Without rain, the fish will not spawn.

You can wait until the weather changes, but this would simply consume a lot of time. A more reliable method of getting rain is to use an item called the Rain Totem. This greatly increases the chance of rain on the next day. It requires the following ingredients to craft:

  • 1x Hardwood.
  • 1x Truffle Oil.
  • 5x Pine Tar.

The rivers that flow through The Mines, Pelican Town and Cindersap Forest will yield the Stardew Valley Catfish during the Spring and Fall seasons. This is technically one body of water stretching across multiple areas, so any of these locations will work.

During these same seasons, the small lake in the Secret Woods will also have this fish. Rainy Summer days are also a viable option for this location. You can also find the Catfish in the Witch’s Swamp during the Spring season.

And finally, searching garbage cans in Pelican Town in either Spring or Fall may also reward you with the Catfish.
