How To Catch A Catfish

Lake In The Secret Woods.

To improve your chances of catching the Stardew Valley Catfish, we highly recommend that you bring along some Bait. Acquiring and equipping this item is an extremely simple process, which will save you a lot of time and effort.

After that, players can find the Catfish in a few different locations over different seasons. The only constant requirements are that the time has to be between 6 am and 12 am and that it has to be raining. Without rain, the fish will not spawn, and there is no point in searching for the Catfish location in Stardew Valley.

You can wait until the weather changes, but this would simply consume a lot of time. A more reliable method of getting rain is to use an item called the Rain Totem. This greatly increases the chance of rain the next day. It requires the following ingredients to craft:

  • 1x Hardwood.
  • 1x Truffle Oil.
  • 5x Pine Tar.

The rivers that flow through The Mines, Pelican Town and Cindersap Forest will yield the Stardew Valley Catfish during the Spring and Fall seasons. This is technically one body of water stretching across multiple areas, so any of these locations will work.

During these same seasons, the small lake in the Secret Woods will also have this fish. Rainy Summer days are also a viable option for this location. The Witch’s Swamp during the Spring season is another best location for Catfish in Stardew Valley.

And finally, searching garbage cans in Pelican Town in either Spring or Fall may also reward you with the Catfish.

Targeting the River in Spring and Fall season

Catfish do not spawn in the oceans, restricting their location to only rivers, lakes, and ponds. The rivers that flow through The Mines, Pelican Town and Cindersap Forest will yield the Stardew Valley Catfish during the Spring and Fall seasons. This is technically one body of water stretching across multiple areas, so any of these locations will work.

Catching Catfish in Secret Woods

During these same seasons, the small lake in the Secret Woods will also have this fish. Rainy Summer days are also a viable option for this location. If the game has optimum weather and conditions, head towards this mysterious location and test your luck. Secret Woods is located in the northwest corner of Cindersap Forest. Once you reach the location, you can spot a cumbersome log there that can be chopped. When you chop this big log out, you can get access to this secret location. Use this place to your advantage and get the best out of it.

Catching Catfish in the ponds

Although the spots of the River passing through the town, mines, and the Forest are the best locations to catch Catfish, there are some other spots where you can get lucky as well. Other than rivers, the ponds of farms are a spot to get this fish too. Once you purchase the fish ponds from Robin, the Catfish will spawn there in the primal season and weather.

Uses and price of Catfish

The Catfish is a high energy snack as well as a great asset. You can either use it to gain energy and health or sell it to get gold in return.

The basic variant of Catfish grants you 50 energy and 22 health. Other than that it can also be sold for 200g. The Silver and Gold Catfish even gives more benefits and have selling price of 250g and 300g respectively.
