Antony Starr Isn’t Voicing Homelander In Mortal Kombat 1

Homelander is a part of the game's Kombat Pack.

Story Highlights

  • Antony Starr is a famous actor, known for playing Homelander in The Boys TV series.
  • Mortal Kombat 1 also features Homelander as a guest character, fully playable.
  • The character’s actor has confirmed that he won’t be voicing Homelander in the game.

Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest iteration in the long-running Mortal Kombat franchise, rebooting the series and taking things back to ground zero. The same as the previous two entries, the game features guest characters from other IPs, and one of them is Homelander from Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys. In a recent string of news, it’s been uncovered that Antony Starr won’t be voicing Homelander—the actor who plays the role in the television series.

Replying to a comment on one of his posts asking the actor whether he’s going to voice Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, Antony Starr simply said “nope.” In all fairness, this is pretty much a major bummer. I’m not sure if there’s an actor out there who can portray Homelander as perfectly as Antony did, so him reprising his role for Mortal Kombat 1 would’ve been the cherry on top for fans of both franchises.

In case you’re not aware, Homelander is one of the characters making the cut for Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack, which is a collection of post-launch playable and Kameo fighters, including the likes of Omni-Man, Ermac, Peacemaker, Quan Chi, Takeda, and, of course, Homelander. It costs $39.99 on Steam and requires the Mortal Kombat 1 base game.

  • Do note that the majority of Kombat Pack characters haven’t been officially released yet for Mortal Kombat 1. They’re meant to be rolled out throughout this year and the next for the game.

The entire roster for the Kombat Pack was unveiled about 3 months ago, and by the end of the reveal, it was stated that Homelander, which I’m presuming is the final character of the pack, will be available by Spring 2024, so that’s when you can expect all the fighters from the first Kombat Pack to be officially out. And yes, I said “first” because there’s going to be a Kombat Pack 2 too, as per multiple rumors and leaks.

Anyhow, you’ve got Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1 from The Invincible as well, and fortunately, he’s voiced by his original VA J.K. Simmons. His initial reveal had fans jumping in excitement over the accuracy and attention to detail exhibited by NetherRealm. One of the most brutal moments from the show has been set as one of Omni-Man’s fatalities, and that’s literal fan service from the side of the devs.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released on September 19, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch port present as well. In eXputer’s review, Asad Ahmed rated the game 4.5/5, calling it a “triumphant return to form for the franchise.” If you’re new to the game, here’s a dedicated tier list of all fighters in the game to know what characters to prioritize in terms of learning.
