Mortal Kombat 1 Shows Off Vicious Omni-Man Gameplay

NetherRealm shows off incredible attention to detail with this one.

Story Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest rendition in the iconic Mortal Kombat franchise of fighting games.
  • The series is known to feature guest characters, and the new game is seemingly following suit.
  • The devs have recently showcased Omni-Man, offering a deeper look into the Viltrumite.

If you’ve watched Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible, then you know how big of a menace we have at our disposal here. We’ve known for a while that Omni-Man will be making it into Mortal Kombat 1, but it’s only now that the devs have showcased the character in action, highlighting the Viltrumite’s Fatality and Brutality sequences and other combat moves. In short, you don’t want a piece of this guy.

The almost 3-minute long footage dives deep into Omni-Man’s moveset and his overall set of abilities that he’s about to bring to the table. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t watched Invincible, but there are certain moments in his reveal video that are a clear callback to the animated series’ first season, which is when things took off. Man, what a wild ride.

It’s also worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Omni-Man on the big screen. A little over 3 weeks ago, NetherRealms put out the initial reveal for the Viltrumite, giving fans an official first look. As a matter of fact, rumors about the character being in Mortal Kombat 1 started to spread as far back as May, not to mention other leaks that dumped the game’s entire roster online.

Omni-Man is one of the six characters included in the purchasable DLC called Kombat Pack. The other five are no slouch either, encompassing the likes of Homelander from The Boys, Ermac, Reptile, DC’s Peacemaker, Quan Chi, and Takeda. All of these are post-launch fighters, so expect their official unveiling to drop in the coming months, even if you’ve bought the add-on.

In other news, the fighter title is expected to get crossplay functionality soon, as game director Ed Boon hosted a poll on his X account as of late, asking fans about the next online feature they’d like to see first. The consensus is adamant on bringing cross-platform play to the title now more than ever, especially after NetherRealm confirmed that it won’t be making the cut on launch.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released on September 19, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC, with a Switch version coming in side by side as well, although much to the disappointment of fans. However, eXputer has rated the game 4.5/5 and declared that the legendary fighting game series is finally back, hard and fast.
