DC’s Peacemaker Could Come To Mortal Kombat 12 As Guest Character

There's a tease of Homelander in there as well.

Story Highlights

  • Mortal Kombat 12 hasn’t been officially announced yet, but it’s pretty much a no-brainer that a new title in the franchise is coming, sooner or later.
  • Each Mortal Kombat game is known to feature guest characters from other iconic movie series and video game franchises, such as The Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11, Kratos in the 2009-released Mortal Kombat, and even Jason from Friday the 13th in Mortal Kombat 10.
  • According to a new tease by a notable industry insider, it very well might be that Peacemaker from the DCEU and Homelander from The Boys arrive at the forefront of Mortal Kombat 12 as guest characters.
  • The information is not confirmed and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Mortal Kombat is one of the most celebrated fighting video game series of all time, spanning a plethora of different video game titles and live-action movies as well. Although there’s no official confirmation yet, Mortal Kombat 12 is soon coming, and allegedly, we may already know who some of the guest characters in the game are going to be—DC’s Peacemaker and Homelander from The Boys, according to a credible industry insider.

Replying to Greg Miller—prominent media personality and Kinda Funny CEO—over an appreciation post for the DC Extended Universe’s Peacemaker, Jez Corden took the opportunity to reply by saying, “Would be cool if he was playable in an upcoming fighting game.” Jez is a known person in the gaming business who has voiced multiple rumors in the past, many of which have come to be true, such as Ubisoft+ coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Of course, Jez hasn’t explicitly stated anything that ties to Mortal Kombat 12, but the implication can be easily referred to as the latter. What’s more here is that Homelander from The Boys has also been made a part of this teaser scenario, where Jez, replied with an affirmative GIF to a fan voicing his opinion on how the Superman duplicate would be a good fit for the forthcoming fighting title. Again, all of this is to be taken with a grain of salt.

The last mainline entry in the Mortal Kombat series came out in 2019, called Mortal Kombat 11, and that has been the franchise’s latest front-running game ever since. A mobile-centric title did release this year as well, dubbed Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, but what fans truly await is a major rendition, just like how Tekken 8 is about to arrive at the forefront of the fighting game genre in the not-so-distant future.

The developer of Mortal Kombat 12 has not been officially confirmed yet. Still, according to a fiery leak that surfaced last year, it could be none other than NetherRealm Studios working on the upcoming Mortal Kombat iteration. The Senior Production Manager of the company Jonathan Andersen tweeted a photo of his worktable comprising comical issues of Mortal Kombat and other media, but eagle-eyed fans spotted something else.

Tucked away to the lower extremities of Jonathan’s PC screen, a file called “MK12_Mast” was seen (thanks MP1st). It’s a fair indication that NetherRealm could be all in on Mortal Kombat 12. As for the release date, a WB earnings call posted in February this year officially stated that the title would be coming out in the same year as Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6, making 2023 one hell of a year for the fighting games community.

Both Peacemaker and Homelander are characters that deserve their respective entries in a game like Mortal Kombat. Both are absolute fiends when it boils down to violence and conflict, and you certainly don’t want to be on the receiving end of either. Maybe I’m getting a little too excited, but a Homelander fatality where the Living Weapon proceeds to gouge his foe’s eyes out doesn’t seem like a far-fetched idea.
