Developer Nekki confirmed on X:

RELEASE WINDOW CONFIRMED. SPINE launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series in Summer 2027. Get ready to join Redline’s story, uncover the world of SPINE, and experience Gun Fu like never before.” The announcement came with a new trailer and reopened wishlisting on the game’s official site.

SPINE puts players in control of Redline, a rebellious street artist in the cyberpunk megacity of Tensor City, where an autocratic AI regime enforces a Social Rating system that decides who gets to live comfortably and who gets thrown into the city’s decaying lower levels.

After a mafia heist goes wrong and costs Redline her brother, she acquires Spine, a sentient combat implant with a mind of its own, and sets out to get him back. According to Nekki’s own press materials, the story sends “ripples through the streets they navigate, changing the lives of the people they meet” with every fight along the way.

Nekki describes SPINE’s combat as “Freeflow Gun Fu,” blending close-quarters gunplay with kung fu-inspired melee, choreographed with input from action movie stunt specialists. The game is built on Unreal Engine 5 alongside Nekki’s own animation engine, Cascadeur, and leans heavily on cinematic camera work designed to make every fight feel like a scene from an action film without ever taking control away from the player. Journalists who’ve gone hands-on with earlier builds have consistently pitched it the same way: “What if John Wick was a game?”

Nekki, headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus, is best known for mobile hits like Shadow Fight, making SPINE a considerably bigger, more cinematic swing than the studio’s back catalog. Fans looking to explore the game’s world before launch can also check out “SPINE: Bullet Dancers,” a webtoon comic Nekki publishes to expand the story ahead of release.

SPINE was first shown at Summer Game Fest 2024 and has made the rounds at gaming showcases in the years since, without a confirmed date, making this the clearest signal yet of when players will actually get their hands on the full game.
