Assassins Creed Valhalla’s latest update has been announced and one of the primary changes made is a reduction to the game’s massive file size. Title Update 1.4.1 is going to restructure the game’s file size and improve performance in various aspects.
According to Ubisoft’s own blog post, “The upcoming Title Update consolidates the game files, resulting in a smaller overall game size on all platforms. Additionally, performance should improve with this data restructuring, with faster loading screen times, improved world data streaming, and overall runtime performance.”
The catch however? You’ll have to redownload the entire game. That’s right, the update is a whopping 78 gigs which will then reduce the game’s file size once the restructuring is done. The download size has also been mentioned for each platform and its in the 60-78 GB ballpark for PC, PS4, XBOX One and XBOX Series X while 40 GB for the PlayStation 5.
Rainbow Six Siege also recently received a patch that significantly reduced the game’s install size, from over 70 gigs to a somewhat more reasonable 50 gigs. Its nice to see certain developers realizing their games don’t need to have the install size equal to the large continents that they are having you explore.
Assassins Creed Valhalla itself is a behemoth of a game, for better or worse. Its a stunning recreation of Viking lands and the many regions that they conquered in their time. Many players loved the game’s approach and all the content it had to offer while equal amount criticized the game for being bloated. Nonetheless, its a great experience for anyone that has interest in Vikings, a theme that while somewhat common in media, isn’t overtly so.
Fans of the setting should also check out The Banner Saga which is a role playing turn based RPG set in a similar setting, as well as Vinland Saga, a fantastic anime set in a very familiar world as Assassins Creed Valhalla.
