Baldur’s Gate 3 became the 3rd highest-selling paid game on Steam just a month before its release. Although the game has been available for quite some time, the recent gameplay encapsulated many people, pushing the game to secure a spot in the top 3. The 1st and 2nd top-selling games on this list are DAVE THE DIVER and BattleBit Remastered.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has received a few trailers on several occasions, but the game never became as popular as it did recently when the studio shared some gameplay details with the fans. Aside from including a “genital” option in character customization, the gameplay confirmed that players could have a romantic relationship with Druids (and possibly other species), one of which shapeshifted into a bear during the intimate scene.
This resulted in the game trending over multiple platforms for a few days, boosting the marketing for the game. It could be the main reason that Baldur’s Gate 3 has joined the ranks of AAA games, like Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Hogwarts Legacy, all of which performed great in sales. Baldur’s Gate 3 is also expected to be content-rich since the studio confirmed it would take 200 hours for perfectionists to complete it.
The only two games stopping Baldur’s Gate 3 from reaching the top spot are DAVE THE DIVER and BattleBit Remastered, both of which have been well-received. Even so, Baldur’s Gate 3 has more positive reviews than the top two games, as it boasts over 57,000 reviews, while BattleBit Remastered has a close 46,000, and DAVE THE DIVER sits at the top with only 26,000.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is an upcoming RPG game developed and published by Larian Studios. The third iteration in the main series is based on Dungeons & Dragons. It was released in early access for Windows, macOS, and Stadia on October 6, 2020. It remains in early access, with the full version scheduled to release on August 3, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will be released on September 6, and the Xbox Series X|S port is still under-development.
