Baldur’s Gate 3 On Xbox Still Suffers A Save Glitch; Larian Outlines Temporary Fix

Try activating cross-saves to work with the problem at the moment.

Story Highlights

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest hits of 2023, having crowned the Game of the Year award at TGA.
  • The game on Xbox consoles still suffers from a save issue sadly, where players reportedly have lost progress.
  • Larian ensures that it’s working toward a solution at present, and has also outlined a temporary fix for it.

Baldur’s Gate 3, although spectacular by every stretch of the word, still hasn’t gotten completely rid of its save error on Xbox consoles that has been plaguing players for a good while now. In fact, the issue was supposed to be mitigated mid-December alongside a new console update, but it somehow persisted despite the devs’ best efforts. Now, Larian has prepared an alternative, temporary solution for the glitch, asking players to turn to it for the time being.

The dev studio explains, “We’re aware that there is a save issue on Xbox that continues to linger throughout the holidays. It occurs when exiting the game after saving. The game thinks the save was successful but due to a firmware issue, the save file is not fully committed to disk yet,” thereby prompting troubled players to try the cross-save method, which has been outlined on X for users to replicate on their end.

The gist of it is that you first need to have an account over at larian.com, so once you’ve registered for one on the official handle, open the options section in your Baldur’s Gate 3 game, and check the “Cross-saves” box underneath the “Gameplay” area. From here on out, you will be able to breathe a little easier, even if the firmware issue does your session in. Larian further advises,

From now on, your last 5 saves will automatically be uploaded to the larian servers. It is important that you do not exit the game before the upload is finished. The upload is finished when the message ‘Syncing cloud save’ is no longer visible.”

It bears mentioning that the steps above will need to be repeated for toggling cross-saves in case the firmware bug kicks in again. Doing so will allow you to access your last 5 saves, as Larian has confirmed. It’s a hassle, I know, but it’s what you get until the devs work out a permanent solution for the matter, which they’re currently occupied with already.
