Bethesda And ZeniMax Studios Hire Arkane Austin Developers After Studio Closure

The studio closure resulted in 96 devs being sacked.

Story Highlights

  • As per a new report, multiple devs from the closed Arkane Austin studio have already been hired.
  • Bethesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Online Studios stepped in to secure the laid-off devs.
  • The exact number of hired devs is unknown for now, but it is a win-win situation for everyone.

Arkane Austin was the latest Microsoft studio to meet its end. The whole team of 96 devs was laid off amid a wave of tech downsizing, with the firm losing one of its most talented first-party studios. As pointed out by Klobrille on Twitter, the devs were the most affected by the recent fiasco. But as it turns out, multiple of them from the now-closed Arkane branch have moved to Bethesda Game Studios and ZeniMax Online Studios.

Multiple Bethesda and ZeniMax studios were allegedly swift to hire a significant number of devs. Typically, it becomes quite a chore for the laid-off developers to find new studios to work for, but these were some lucky individuals who were quickly absorbed into other teams. Bethesda and ZeniMax studios will likely utilize their talents to further boost their output and quality in the gaming industry.

Despite Recent Track Record, Arkane Austin Boasted A Good Roster

Arkane Austin is behind some of the most fun and popular franchises in the industry. The team is mostly remembered for their contribution to the Dishonored series, but my personal favorite was none other than Prey. Unfortunately, Redfall, touted to be the first major first-party Xbox release in a while, ended up flopping hard.

It’s worth mentioning that the exact number of devs that were hired is still unknown. Regardless, the devs that were chosen will likely use their talents to support and work on new projects within the new studios. In short, it is a win-win situation for everyone.
