- The artist also revealed that the textures were hand-painted PBR, which was a difficult task back then.
An artist has lifted the curtain on a Star Wars title, which reportedly was canceled in 2013 for reasons unknown. The assets Michael Long shared on his ArtStation profile give a detailed look at some of the Star Wars vehicles, which could have been part of what appears to be a promising project a decade ago.
The first image shows the legendary Millenium Falcon, who has led the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic to many victories. Though many may call it a piece of junk, The Falcon has always exceeded expectations.
TIE Fighters are carried within Star Destroyers and certain battle stations. They are excellent single-pilot vehicles designed to out-pace the Rebel X-Wings in dogfights and emerge victorious.
The X-Wing Fighter is a Rebel Alliance starfighter that uses four laser cannons and two proton torpedo launchers to combat enemies. The image above shows the different states of the starfighter after combat.
The AT-ST, or All Terrain Scout Transport, is a descendant of the two-legged walker used during the Clone Wars. It is a much smaller version of the AT-AT.
The AT-AT, or All Terrain Armored Transport, is a massive combat vehicle used by the Imperial Ground Forces. Even though it is built for combat, it is sometimes used as a mode of transport. There are also other assets, like the Imperial Shuttle, that you can check out on Michael’s profile. According to the artist, “[The] textures are all hand-painted PBR, which was a new trick back then and not very easy to do.”
Considering that the game was canceled in the pre-production phase, this is likely the furthest the assets went into development. In other news, the most recent iteration in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, appears to be struggling with the PC version in terms of performance. In order to tackle these persisting issues, EA has promised “weeks” of patches to improve the game’s current disappointing state.
