Capcom Considers Remaking Another Classic, But It’s Not The One Fans Want (Again)

Coming out earlier this month, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster brings back the classic Frank West experience in brand-spanking-new fashion, employing the capability of Capcom’s RE Engine to give players a fully overhauled experience. It’s still not a full-blown remake, because outside of the massive graphical upgrade, the core gameplay along with most other mechanics remains pretty much unchanged. 

It’s a solid entry, for sure, that’s going to bring back a lot of memories, but here’s the kicker: Capcom is next considering remaking another classic entry belonging to the same franchise, but it’s hardly what fans want the most. In an interview with Inverse, the game’s producer Kei Morimoto told the publication that a Dead Rising 2 remake or remaster in the same vein as Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is “definitely possible.” 

Remaking or remastering Dead Rising 2 is definitely possible. For the time being, we’re monitoring market trends and how Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster performs. If we’re able to identify an appropriate time where we’d be able to sell a remake or remaster of Dead Rising 2, there’s potential for the project to be considered.” 

Two words, one franchise: Dino Crisis.

Dino Crisis Keeps Getting Pushed Further And Further Down The Backlog

At this point, I’m not even sure whether a new Dino Crisis is ever coming out. Shinji Mikami, the OG creator of the franchise, let out a heartbreaking statement last month, saying that he was actually surprised to observe the rising demand for a new Dino Crisis title despite the existence of Monster Hunter. He could be playing with us, but it does not help the case any further anyway. 

I don’t really feel like there’s a whole lot of space for that kind of game right now, just since Monster Hunter has become such a big game,” said Mikami at Gamescom this year in Cologne. 

Dino Crisis is joined by games like Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Onimusha when it comes to Capcom releases that deserve the remake treatment the most. Here’s hoping that the industry giant get down to business with these projects sometime down the road.
