Everyone had huge expectations for Cyberpunk 2077 when it was first announced. It quickly became the most highly anticipated game of the year and with reason. From its futuristic setting to mind-blowing features like wall running, it was a true delight for the players.
But, the actual release wasn’t anything like expectations and disappointed every fan. Cyberpunk 2077 was a buggy mess and was unable to run on the current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game became one of the biggest let-downs in history and Sony even pulled the game from their store.
However, slowly but surely CD Projekt Red fixed the issues and the game returned to the PS Store too. Recently this resurgence went a notch up due to the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Cyberpunk 2077 is in its best shape since its release and the numbers are only increasing.
Major Takeaways:
- Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a new high for concurrent players on Steam.
- The game will reach 100k players by Friday.
- Cyberpunk: Edgrunners is to thank for this resurgence.
On Friday, the game reached a new peak for concurrent players on Steam breaking its previous record set on Thursday. Benji-Sales on Twitter first reported these numbers to the masses. Looking at them one thing is for sure, Cyberpunk 2077’s player count is only going upward.
CD Projekt Red’s RPG had 97,232 players on Friday which is a new high for the game. It has been breaking its record for peak concurrent players throughout the week. But, Friday was the biggest jump in player numbers for Cyberpunk 2077.
All 5 Weekdays increased in players on Steam for Cyberpunk 2077 with Friday the biggest jump yet
Daily Peak Concurrent Players
Monday: 78,478
Tuesday: 83,252
Wednesday: 86,130

The game had 78,478 players on Monday and this increased to 83,252 concurrent players on Tuesday according to Steam Database. Cyberpunk 2077 saw another substantial increase on Wednesday with 86,130 players. Similarly, Thursday had 89,395 players but Friday has had the biggest increase in concurrent players by far.
Hence, the game is most probably going to reach 100k concurrent players on Saturday if this trend continues. Most probably it will cross this number with ease the way things are looking. And, Cyberpunk 2077 owes all of this resurgence to one thing: the Netflix show.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has been a mega-hit on Netflix and has received huge critical acclaim. Not only the gamers but the general audience has loved it too. Hence, Cyberpunk 2077 has been exposed to a large number of people bringing a lot of new players to the game.
It would be wrong to say that the game doesn’t deserve this resurgence. A lot of work has been done since its very messy release and a new show bringing fans to Cyberpunk 2077 is nice to see. Hopefully, we will see more adaptations have this effect on video games in the future.
