Elden Ring has sold 17.5 million copies until now; Bandai Namco announced.

Bandai Namco reported sales of the action role-playing game Elden Ring by FromSoftware have topped 17.5 million units. The information is provided in the publisher’s report for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, and it is current as of September 30.

Elden Ring, which was only released in February of this year, has completely taken over the game industry. Within the first month of its release, the action role-playing game created by Bandai Namco Entertainment and From Software sold one million copies in Japan and 12 million copies globally.

Recollect that Elden Ring‘s total shipments and digital sales hit 16.6 million copies on June 30 (125 days after release). Elden Ring, as previously reported, added additional 0.9 million units to its account for the quarter since the last report (i.e. from July 1st to September 30th). Thus, there are 17.5 million copies in all.

Bandai recently announced another milestone achieved by skyrocketing Elden Ring.

In the first half of fiscal 2022, sales of home video games are expected to reach 5.4 million units for new titles and 19.21 million units for repeat titles.

As noticed by an Install Base user, the top Japanese games ever in terms of sales (based on information from the first three quarters after release) are.

  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 26.04 million copies (March 2020 – September 2020)
  • Pokemon Sword & Shield – 18.22 million copies (November 2019 – June 2020)

The Japanese multi-platform game Elden Ring continues to have the fastest sales of all time, outpacing games like Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Dark Souls, and Kingdom Hearts. Only Nintendo exclusives Pokemon Sword & Shield and Animal Crossing: New Horizons had higher sales.

Elden Ring is the most popular game produced by FromSoftware in comparison to their earlier works. During the same time period, it even outsold Bethesda’s renowned RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in terms of sales. Skyrim shipped 10 million copies in its first month, compared to Elden Ring’s 12 million unit sales.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry presented the Grand Award to FromSoftware’s brutal RPG back in September at a ceremony that took place toward the close of the first press day of the Tokyo Game Show.

The Grand Award was the third honor Miyazaki and FromSoftware received on the occasion. Elden Ring received a Certificate of Excellence as well (a category essentially for finalists for the Grand Award).

For contributions “to the growth of the Japanese home video gaming industry,” Miyazaki also received the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Award.

Currently, Elden Ring may be purchased for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC (Steam).
