Story Highlights
- Far Cry 6 will no longer get updates as Ubisoft announces its ending support for the game.
- Online modes will remain unaffected and players can still enjoy the multiplayer.
- Far Cry 7, on the other hand, is reportedly being released in 2025.
Developer Ubisoft has officially ended support for Far Cry 6, announcing that the first-person shooting game won’t get any more updates from the developer. As revealed by the official Far Cry account on X, the online features of the title will stay up but no more patches will be deployed to fix the issues. Hence, it seems like the game’s dev team is finally moving to another project, which could be the next Far Cry.
Thanks to the millions of players who joined the fight! Your adventures can continue in Yara w/o interruption of online services however, the dev team will no longer be making updates to Far Cry 6.

In the X post, the Far Cry 6 developers thanked all of the fans who played the game and joined the fight against the dictator Antón Castillo, saying even he was proud of their effort. Furthermore, the post specifically used the word “millions” meaning the shooting title most probably sold in huge numbers, which is expected as it was behind Ubisoft’s best year even though the company didn’t publish official sales numbers.
Following this announcement, many fans are also assuming that a Far Cry 7 reveal could be on the horizon. A leak earlier this year did say that Ubisoft was hard at work on the next game in the series and was developing it alongside a multiplayer title. Per the report, the multiplayer title is an extraction shooter taking place in the wilderness while on the other hand, Far Cry 7 is being made in the brand-new Snowdrop engine.
Far Cry 6 came out on October 7, 2021, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. eXputer in its review rated the game 4/5, praising its open-world map, weapon variety, and engaging combat.
