Story Highlights
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake could be coming to Xbox down the road, as claimed by the notable insider Jez Corden.
- Microsoft is reportedly in talks to make that happen, but it is unlikely to be released in the immediate future.
- We suggest taking the rumor with a grain of salt. Xbox or Square Enix has yet to confirm the Xbox port.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a grand success after launch, but its PS5 exclusivity has prevented Xbox players from playing. However, that could be changing soon. As spotted by Idle Sloth, the insider Jez Corden claimed during the latest Xbox Two podcast episode that Microsoft is in talks to bring the port over to Xbox Series S|X. “I’ve got evidence tentatively that there are discussions about Final Fantasy 7 [Remake] for Xbox,” said Jez Corden.
He begins discussing the state of Final Fantasy on Xbox around 53:20. However, the insider makes it clear that an immediate release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox is highly unlikely. Sony and Square Enix would not want to jeopardize the early launch success of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, after all. It is set to release on February 29 as one of Square Enix’s biggest projects this year.
Maybe Sony and Square Enix both wouldn’t want to take the shine off [Final Fantasy 7] Rebirth right now by announcing FF7 Remake for Xbox, but I do think it’ll happen,” said Jez Corden in the podcast.
On the flip side, a former ResetEra forum member, Im A Hero Too, previously claimed that FF7 Remake was also allegedly in development for Switch 2. It is apparently expected to arrive as a launch title for Switch 2 because the porting process would take no time. The other host, Rand Al Thor 19, also imagines that FF7 Remake will launch on Switch 2.
Regardless, the new rumor by Jez also aligns with claims earlier made by the Xbox brand CEO, Phil Spencer. Once the Xbox boss was asked in an interview with IGN about whether the Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake would arrive on Xbox one day, he said, “[we will] hear more. I’m not going to push them.” Additionally, Phil has previously expressed that he is often in talks with Square Enix to bring Final Fantasy games to Xbox.

All in all, we suggest taking the rumors with a huge grain of salt. We can expect a late 2023 or early 2024 release window for the remake before it arrives on Xbox.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake initially came out for the PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020. It performed well because the action RPG was full of details never explored in the past. Fans praised the title for gripping visuals and gameplay, which also was a huge upgrade over the original. As a result, the remake sold over seven million copies as of September 2023. An enhanced version dubbed FF7 Remake Integrade followed suit in 2021 for the PS5 and PC.
