Fire Emblem Engage remains one of the most anticipated games to make landfall as the latest iteration in the Fire Emblem franchise. It is scheduled to release on January 20, 2023 — as per the official listing on the Nintendo Store — but apparently, some of the essentials associated with it have already started to come out in the open.
The scoop comes from a Dutch Nintendo-based website called N1-UP that has evidently captured some footage of the upcoming turn-based RPG during its “preview session” of the title. The event where the proceedings took place occurred at Nintendo Netherlands.
At the end of the intro cutscene, fans can take a sneak peek at the game’s title screen as well, not to mention the recorded footage itself which looks nothing but awe-inspiring. The cutscene has been recorded with English audio, thereby providing a clearer hint as to what to expect from the voice acting of Fire Emblem Engage.
The Rundown:
- Fire Emblem Engage is a tactical role-playing game that is due to be released later this month on 20 January. The game is available for pre-order at the time of writing and features prominent characters from former Fire Emblem games as well.
- Taking to YouTube to post their recordings, a Netherlands-based website with its content oriented toward Nintendo has provided insight as to how the intro cutscene of Fire Emblem Engage is shaping up to be.
- Alongside the preview and the aforementioned introductory footage of the game, there’s gameplay of Fire Emblem Engage out in the open at this moment in time as well.
- The music of the game’s intro has already had its fair share of criticism across various forums and platforms, but since people can’t wait for the title to make landfall on the Nintendo Switch already, it’ll still do.
Check out the video yourself and do share your thoughts with us as well. In our opinion, the animation is bang on, especially the way the characters are designed. It truly does make one wonder what in the world was ever wrong with Fire Emblem Three Houses, considering the amount of negativity the latter received for its visual quality.
If you watch until the end of the video, you’ll be able to visualize the new title screen for the game as well, which, in all honesty, looks just as expected, considering the relevant sections of the previous Fire Emblem games. As for the rest of the intro cutscene, it’s obvious how high-quality the game’s animated footage looks like.
Oh, and in case you’d like to catch a glance at the game’s preview, here’s a YouTube video that showcases its Dutch variant. Those who somehow missed Fire Emblem Engage’s gameplay reveal can check out the following footage.
Glancing at the game’s intro cutscene, one aspiring player writes, “Game looks great but that song is atrocious.” Others have been focusing more on the apparent visuals of the game. A commentator shelling out his opinion on the matter conforms to the idea that Fire Emblem Engage’s animation features more color to it significantly.
Additionally, there are the “cartoonish” and heavy border lines prevalent in the animated designs of the characters, not to mention actual Anti-Aliasing in Fire Emblem Engage. The latter was reported by Digital Foundry and can be confirmed via the YouTube video ahead. The point of interest arrives at the 4:41 timestamp mark.
To sum up the scenario, this is what one fan of the series has to say about the upcoming RPG, seeing the surfacing intro cutscene of the title.
The first half is kinda eh but that second half picks up so hard. Is it corny? Yes. Am I disappointed? Partly. Do I still love it? Yes absolutely.”
Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo itself, Fire Emblem Engage will launch for the Nintendo Switch exclusively as the 14th mainline rendition in the series.
