Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remasters Leaked At San Diego Comic-Con

Unbelievable, to say the least.

Story Highlights

  • Legacy of Kain is an iconic action-adventure video game franchise spanning multiple games.
  • The series has been abandoned since the early 2000s, but a new leak suggests that this might change.
  • A panel at the San Diego Comic-Con shows off the “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered” branding.

I’m pretty much in disbelief of what my eyes are seeing at the moment — because the news does seem too good to be true — but we have hard, photographic evidence backing up the claim at hand. A statue displayed at the currently ongoing San Diego Comic-Con confirms that “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remasters” are on the way, spelling the resurgence of an exceptionally iconic video game franchise.

Have a look ahead.

Another shot of the statue sees the official branding of the potentially forthcoming games on the placard. The QR code that you spot in the image takes you straight to Dark Horse Direct, a popular video game figurine and statue maker. According to GameSpot, the company plans on releasing the Legacy of Kain statue in August, but as far as the claim of the remasters is concerned, there have been no confirmations.

The Remasters Have Not Been Officially Announced

From the looks of the leak, an official announcement of the remasters is now a matter of when and not if, because it all seems too authentic to be fake or anything of the sort at this point. The Legacy of Kain series saw its last iteration in 2003, titled Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Up until now, which is more than two decades later, word on a new game has been radio silent.

On the flip side, fans — myself included — haven’t forgotten what this epic dark fantasy series lived up to back in the day and have been longing for its revival ever since, though only in vain. Seemingly, that should change in the near future.

Embracer Group owns the Legacy of Kain IP at the moment, along with a number of other big names associated with Square Enix, given that the latter was acquired by Embracer in May 2022 for a sum of $300 million. Following the deal, the industry giant commented,

The announcement got an overwhelming and positive response. We see great potential, not only in sequels but also in remakes, remasters, spin-offs as well as transmedia projects across the group.”
