According to a new rumor, a remake of Metal Gear Solid is still in production. As reported by the Spanish outlet Areajugones, Konami has been working on the project for a while now but another title takes priority at the moment. Said title happens to be the remake of MGS3 now known as MGS Delta: Snake Eater.
The Areajugones’ report talks about one of their sources informing them about several projects being in the works relating to the Metal Gear IP. In particular, the remake of Metal Gear Solid was to be announced in 2023. While such an event did not occur, Konami revealed the MGS Master Collection Vol.1 along with MGS Delta. Presumably, a Vol.2 would eventually come out as well.
To prove that their information isn’t misguided, the report provides evidence in the form of a successful leak regarding the existence of a DLC for God of War Ragnarok. Moving on, the article states that this Metal Gear Solid remake is currently in one of its first phases with Konami treating it as one of its most ambitious works in the coming years.

Given that the project has allegedly been in development for several years and is still in its initial phases, it provides some clarity as to why the fan-made remake “Shadow Moses” might have been canceled. Back in 2016, the team behind Shadow Moses broke the news citing “reasons beyond their control.” It may not have been official but it’s quite obvious what led the project to this fate.
Another interesting element of this report talks about the platforms Metal Gear Solid will launch on. Based on the outlet’s sources, the remake will allegedly only be released on the PlayStation 5 similar to Demon’s Souls. This suggests exclusivity but with MGS Delta launching on all relevant systems, it’s best to exercise caution with this particular point and take the entire report with a generous serving of salt.
The latest project in the saga, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A recent blog post by PlayStation suggests that it’s arriving sometime in 2024.
