Modern Warfare 2 Is Already COD’s Most Successful Release On Steam

The huge amount of active players flooding the game speak for themselves.

Players had concerns about the MW2 reboot due to the stagnant performance of Call of Duty: Vanguard. However, it largely fizzled out after the thriving launch of Modern Warfare 2 beta, the biggest in COD’s history, which garnered nearly 110,000 concurrent players. Many leaks also bumped up the lingering anticipations of the community.

Massive leaks like the random appearance of footballers as operators and the planned inclusion of paid campaign DLCs in the future further served as an excellent premonition to the already amped-up community. Modern Warfare 2 release has already proven to be a big success, garnering a substantial active player base on Steam, unlike any other installment.

Major Takeaway:

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has seen an enormous pouring of active players filling the lobbies simultaneously.
  • The MW2’s Steam launch has already been dubbed the biggest in Call of Duty’s history because of the massive numbers of concurrent players.
  • Black Ops III was the last installment to reach a figure anywhere close to MW2.
  • The figures are likely to reach the moon in the coming weekend days.

Modern Warfare 2 has already amassed an all-time high of over 235,000 players simultaneously playing the game, as recorded by the Steam tracking site, SteamDB. The all-time peak stands at a towering 238,522 figures, which is impressive considering the game has only been out for less than a day.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 all-time peak of concurrent players has crossed the 230,000 mark.

At the time of writing, the current concurrent figures stand at 202,131 users and average around the 200k mark. The all-time peak is expected to see an incline this coming weekend when most of the community will jump in the game. Releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Steam has proven to be a great decision for Activision.

An enormous quantity of players flocked to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 right after its release, making the concurrent player loom over any other prior Steam entry in the series. The staggering figures have made MW2 the most successful release in Call of Duty’s history on Steam.

While penning down this article, MW2 currently boasts a fifth place in the current “Most Played Games” section on Steam. It is only overshadowed by the giants of the Steam platform, namely Counter-Strike, Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends. The title is also expected to climb this podium in the next two days.

To give you another idea of how well MW2 has already performed, the last game to come near the new-set record was Black Ops III, which only had a concurrent player count of 63,681. Furthermore, Steam is not the only PC storefront where Modern Warfare 2 is being played, and it does not portray the entire populace of PC players.

The game can still be purchased on Activision’s Battle.net launcher, and it is entirely feasible that the majority of the COD community is enjoying MW2 on it. PC codes purchased on third-party stores are also restricted to the developer’s platform, so it’s conceivable that’s where the bulk of players exists.

However, not all has been sunshine and rainbows for the well-performing Modern Warfare 2. Players are encountering issues like the inability to disable crossplay, which is still possible on Xbox by disabling it on the system level. Nevertheless, the other platforms will have to wait for a patch from the developers.
