Story Highlights
- Two new job listings shared by NetherRealm Studios suggest a new AAA entry is in the works.
- One ad wants the dev to create “high-quality cinematic animation” for a story mode campaign.
- The ads do not state the game or franchise, so it could be for MK1. Take them with a grain of salt.
Recently, eXputer has found possible evidence that suggests NetherRealm Studios is already working on its next AAA entry. A new job listing for Associate Producer states that the dev would be responsible for an “AAA title that NetherRealm Studios is working on.” Additionally, an ad for Senior Animator, Cinematics, also wants an employee who can whip up “high-quality cinematic animation for our story mode campaign.”
This position is for an Associate Producer to be a part of the production team in the day-to-day management of a AAA title that NetherRealm Studios is working on,” reads the listing for Associate Producer.
The ad also requires the dev to create “high-quality realistic character animation content” using various hand-key techniques and dealing with motion capture data. All these tidbits suggest that NetherRealm Studios is already beginning its work on another AAA entry, which could be beyond the skeletal stages at this point.
NetherRealm Studios Might Be Working On Injustice 3 Next
Now that Mortal Kombat 1 dropped last year, all eyes appear to be on Injustice 3. Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice IP, stated in 2022 that the studio had more than one project in the works. Additionally, in a recent interview with The Direct, Ed said that “it would be surprising” if they did not do an Injustice game again. NetherRealm is also always “throwing around ideas” about the story to see what would stick the best.

All in all, these job listings could just be talking about future DLC content for Mortal Kombat 1, as the wording used was quite vague despite a couple of sprinkled implications. So, it is best to take the rumors with a grain of salt until NetherRealm Studios officially confirms the existence of its next AAA game in the future.
