Obsidian Confirms Avowed Will Have Multiple Endings

"It's an Obsidian game."

                                                                            Story Highlights

  • Avowed is an upcoming action-adventure RPG in development by Obsidian Entertainment.
  • According to Game director Carrie Patel, Avowed will indeed feature multiple endings.
  • The number of endings has not yet been given.

If you have been curious to know more about Avowed following the Xbox Direct, then you’re in the right place. Speaking to IGN, Game Director Carrie Patel confirmed that the game would feature multiple endings similar to other Obsidian games.

I mean it’s an Obsidian game. What else would we be if we didn’t have a few different endings?”

Well, there’s that mystery sorted out. The number of endings we can expect from Avowed is also unknown as of right now but Patel did briefly discuss the impact of choices in the game as well as what we can expect from the quests in Avowed.

You have to approach it with a degree of range, both in the spread and placement of those consequences and also the nature of those consequences. Some things need to have surprising but believable outcomes. If everything plays out exactly as you expect, it could feel a little boring.”

Obsidian Entertainment is widely considered to be among the most talented RPG developers in the industry. With talent that spans to as early and even before the original Fallout and all the way to the fan-favorite Fallout New Vegas, as well as other fantastic titles such as The Outer Worlds and Pillars of Eternity, it’s hard to doubt their pedigree in that front.

Back in last month we finally got our first proper look at Avowed thanks to the Xbox Direct where Obsidian showed off Avowed’s quest design and branching choices, but really most of the showcase was about the combat.

It seems Obsidian are going all out on their focus to make the combat in Avowed as fun as possible, incentivizing weapon synergies and experimentation. Players can specialize in casting dual spells with a wand in each hand, or mix and match between various different fighting styles based on their preference.

Avowed sits in a very advantageous position at the moment. With many fans being disappointed by Starfield, maybe Obsidian can give the fans the adventure they sought from Bethesda’s sci-fi space exploration RPG. The game is set to release later this year for the PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
