Octopath Traveler has been delisted on the Nintendo Switch eShop in the United States. As of today, the game isn’t available on the digital storefront, raising questions about its future. It must be noted that most delistings tend to take the page down entirely. In this case, however, only the option to purchase has been removed.
While the exact reason for this remains unclear, users have begun speculating about the potential cause. One explanation lies in the recent transfer of publishing rights as stated on the page. Originally, Octopath Traveler was published by Nintendo. Now, it appears that Square Enix has acquired the rights. In light of this change, players believe that the delisting might be an interim measure to facilitate a smooth transition.

Octopath Traveler garnered critical acclaim for its stunning pixel art graphics, a unique turn-based combat system, and eight interwoven narratives. However, some critics pointed towards the repetitive nature of specific gameplay elements & a lack of character interaction hindering the overall experience. Despite the criticism, the title was a commercial success, moving a phenomenal 3 million copies worldwide by September 2022.

Though the reason behind this delisting remains unconfirmed, it’s worth noting that the game is still readily available physically and on other digital platforms.
