Original Silent Hill 2 Director Is “Very Happy” With Bloober’s Remake

Game recognizes game.

Story Highlights

  • The Silent Hill 2 remake has been received well across the board by fans and critics alike.
  • The director of the original Silent Hill 2 has also chimed in to express his sentiments toward the title.
  • Masashi Tsuboyama is “very happy” with the remake but wants its promotion to be done better.

The Silent Hill 2 remake is currently making a killing out there, enjoying a fantastic reception from both the players and critics following its release a couple of days ago. Now, however, a special person has chimed in to sing their praises for the psychological thriller, and it’s none other than Masashi Tsuboyama, the esteemed director of the original Silent Hill 2 that was launched on September 25, 2001.

I think the value of the remake is that a new generation can play it. As a creator, I’m very happy about it. It’s been 23 years! Even if you don’t know the original, you can just enjoy the remake as it is. Whether it’s good or bad doesn’t affect the original,” says Masashi Tsuboyama.

Silent Hill 2, back when it came out in the early 2000s for PS2, Xbox, and PC, ran rampant across the board for offering a unique, one-of-a-kind-horror experience, so living up to its legacy is naturally considered overwhelming, not to mention the pressure that Bloober Team — the developer of the remake — must have felt when it was tasked to rework this gem of a game.

Thankfully, it’s worked out well for all of us, and Tsuboyama is now another fan of the remake, praising the over-the-shoulder camera perspective while adding that the latter adds realism to the newly released Silent Hill 2.

The over-the-shoulder view definitely adds to the sense of realism. In other words, it makes me want to try playing the even more immersive remake of Silent Hill 2!”

Prior to this, he also says, “The thing to note is the change in camera (perspective). The change in playable camera has a significant impact on many aspects, combat, level design, art creation, etc. While the impact on the story may be relatively small, it brings a big change to the playfeel of the game.”

Silent Hill 2 Offers The Same Great Environment, And Then Some

With the title being sold in stores a week ahead of release, Silent Hill 2 has been the talk of the town for a while now, and for all the right reasons. I had the opportunity to play it in recent times, and I cannot explain how impressed I am with what I’m seeing here. Terrific voice acting, held-back combat which displays James like a regular human who’s mortified to be doing all this, and a stunning atmosphere.

What do you think about the new remake? Do let me know in the comments ahead.
